I took classes here for two years, and for a year before that, I took Iyengar instruction in San Francsico. I highly recommend this discipline of yoga for anyone who may feel that they are "not flexible" or may have physical challenges. Iyengar is a great way to learn proper alignment of the poses, something that you don't get with the other types of yoga, like the ones they offer at the gyms. This is definitely not "gym yoga", so go with an open mind.

Yoga may mean different things to different people. This review is based on my own experience of two years plus work at the Center for Yoga. I went there initially after three years of working my mind (law school) and needing to work on my body. The Center for Yoga has been around for 25 years for a reason. They teach Iyengar style hatha yoga as you would learn it in India from Iyengar himself. This is not a place of burning candles, but one of burning desire to improve your poses and ability. It's not a place of twinkling piano music or aromatherapy, but one of twinkling eyes and clear headed self evaluation. The instructors are uniformly terrific. They really take the time to get to know you, and walk you through each step as a beginner. They also keep your safety at the forefront always, to ensure you don't injure yourself in any way. I am more flexible and toned now than at any point since being in boot camp as an 18 year old. I highly recommend the Center for Yoga to all interested in yoga.
