I am very lucky to work by the Key Tower Allstar and live by the West Seattle Allstar. The West Seattle Allstar has the better facility, nice locker rooms, etc although you do need to bring your own lock and they don't provide towels. The staff and quality of the classes at the Downtown location make up for the smaller and older facility there. Both are great gyms, I like that they are there for you if you need something, and other than that leave you alone. Classes are always drop-ins (except for some spin classes, but those are marked) allowing you to try any class you want until you find a good fit.

Of all the area gyms I've tried, this by far has been my favorite. It's just too bad I live so far from the W. Seattle location.
I am a "class" person and what is great about All-Star is that in the evening hours there is always three different classes going on simultaneously; a yoga/pilates, cardio, and cycling class, so there is plenty to choose from. There is a separate weight room for women, the locker rooms are clean and well-stocked. My absolute favorite feature is the steam room- this alone was my motivation to go to the gym after work. There is also a hot tub, a huge pool, and on-site daycare. What more could you ask for in a gym?

Recently I came to the conclusion that I did need to join a gym to tackle those few extra holiday pounds....before the next holiday season begins. I did my research and visited too many gyms, finding some were inexpensive and some were very expensive. All Star Fitness offered a perfect middle ground, the facility in West Seattle is clean, modern, lots of natural light, never crowded, there is a pool/sauna/steam bath and it is not a meat market.
More than that, I am able to use any of their facilities for no extra cost. The location in the Key Tower offers the opportunity to look down on the city while running on the treadmill, very urban.
