This a great costume purchase and/or rental store on Roosevelt at about NE 71st St called Vintage Costumers that has all kinds of period clothing - it runs the gamut from old style European gowns and finery to Catholic school girl costumes. I've rented from them in the past. It's on the west side of Roosevelt just north of NE 70th so near the Whole Foods store.
The only drawback is since so many of the costumes are one of a kind you may not find what you want in the size you need.

I am hosting my wedding here in December. I have been planning for about a year and it has been a great experience. I have been to the hotel on several occasions. The rooms are beautiful, the staff is always friendly (everyone from the valet to the front desk to the waitstaff in the bar), and the hotel itself is gorgeous. It is not in the heart of downtown (as far as walking distance from most sights) but the hotel provides complimentary towncar service for all guests. As far as special events are concerned they have taken great care of us. The Top of the Town and Penthouse Suite (where my wedding will be held) has a beautiful view of the skyline. The coordinator has gone above and beyond to make sure my event is just what I imagined it would be. I am truly pleased and would recommend the hotel to anyone!

Stopped into this store this weekend to pick out some toasting flutes and walked out 2 hours later as a knowledgeable consumer on top fine china, flatware, and stemware brands! This store only carries the best brands out there. These people really know what they are talking about and were extremely helpful in helping me choose the best toasting glasses and other pieces to register for. They were honest about where I could find the best prices and gave me the low down on all the brands they carry as well as which brands I would get the most use of out for what I would be paying.
The cool thing about this gallery is that you can register here for all of you china, stemware, and flatware. They also have a program where you can come back in the store after the honeymoon and they will give you the total dollar amount that was purchased for you. So you can look at all the pieces you received as gifts and can either decide to take those pieces or put the total dollar amount towards something else in the store.
I found their prices were the same as Macy's so I would recommend talking to these people and getting exactly what you want rather than being sold to by someone at Macy's who doesn't have a clue what they are selling you!
My Mom was stoked about her visit to the store too because she found pieces from her flatware that had been discontinued. They let her pick out the odds and ends that she was missing to complete her set!

No costume venture is complete without a trip to Display & Costume. I think they have a rental department, but they mostly cater to people like me who enjoy cobbling together their own costumes from various parts. They most recently saved my butt this past New Year's Eve by carrying fake Uzis. (I attended a James Bond-themed party.) The toy guns looked real enough that only minor modifications had to be made. Best of all, the Uzis have an awesome rat-a-tat sound effect. (NOTE: Toys R Us and other toy stores do not carry any guns other than Nerf or "ray gun"-type guns anymore because kids apparently get shot up by cops that think they are carrying real guns. Also, there's some issue with morals and teaching kids that guns are bad or something like that...)
Display & Costume is definitely a one-stop shop and prices reflect that. Some things are cheap (fake Uzis) and others are not (fabric). They have a section in the back where you can buy fabric and assorted ribbons and other fabric novelties. Mostly, the store is a haven of accessories for almost any costume you can dream up. They also carry party supplies, including more unusual items like fake palm trees for your luau-themed parties. At Christmas, they have a whole room of elaborate Christmas decorations. Perhaps best of all, the store is located near the Northgate Mall, Pacific Fabrics, and Target, so you can always stop in at those other stores if you don't find everything you need!

Papyrus is a great little store. There are a good number of cards for many occassions. However, the real value and finds in this store are in the boxed cards. They do have individual ones, but not as many special and unique as they feature in boxes. There is also a good selection of wrapping papers and special papers for making your own cards. The staff isn't especially helpful, but usually you don't need much from them so it doesn't matter!

After having my dress ruined at another bridal boutique i was desperate to find a dress in time for my wedding. I walked into Marcella's La Boutique and was greeted by the nicest consultant ever Ali! I was really nervous about only having two months to receive a dress and alter it on time. I found the perfect dress which was super rushed and arrived in 6 weeks. The alterations staff worked miracles and the entire Marcella's staff was so supportive. These gals are as classy and sweet as they come and I am so thankful to have had their help.

This bakery is a labor of love by a couple who used to work for Boeing. Decided to chuck it all and do what they really like. Which is to get up at 4AM in the morning and bake.
The bakery is just great and as a neighborhood place it is more than friendly. For instance, last time we were there, they gave the kids some donuts.
There are probably finer (e.g., sweeter, more fattening treats), but there is just something about their neighborhood place that is friendly and inviting.

More
I went to a few bridal shops to try on dresses thinking that I knew what I wanted from all of the magazines I had looked at. However, once I tried on the different styles I was able to see what was perfect for my body-type and the type of wedding I was planning. THEN, I went to see Madina and she talked to me and showed me some of the dresses on her showroom floor. After narrowing down the materials and style she sketched the PERFECT dress. I had many fittings and ended up with my favorite dress ever (which it should be) because it was just what I wanted and fit me perfectly.
Madina is a straight talker and will steer you in directions you may not have thought of which can be hard for a bride who has decided what she wants from magazines. However, she is usually right. She knows what womens' bodies do in a dress and how to make the best of your strong points. She won't make you something that won't look good and I know that this has bugged some friends of mine who went in with really specific notions of what they wanted. She is an artist so she can be moody - hilarious at times and very serious at other times.
Also keep in mind that a custom made dress and veil etc. is not cheap and it SUCKS that you are only going to wear it once. HOWEVER, you (and your mom and your in-laws and your grandparents and your sister and your best friend) will all have pictures of you in that dress on their walls for DECADES to come and it is worth every penny!
