Mountaineers is a great membership organization, with fantastic classes and opportunities to share your own knowledge by volunteering to teach/lead hiking, climbing, kayaing, photography....there is a lot more to the club than you'd originally think. I I have been a member for several years and have enjoyed classes that include climbing, sailing, photography, navigation, and first aid. They have 'get to know the club' evenings once a month for newcomers or those considering membership--a great way to get a better understanding of what the club has to offer.

For about a century, the Mountaineers have helped climbers in our area to climb safely, and to have good places to climb. They know the best places and go regularly. They perpetuate their knowledge and skills through classes taught by seasoned climbers. And they collaborate to protect these beautiful places. I'm not a member, but have talked to those who have been involved, and it sounds like the best place to find a relevant carpool or other hikers. If hiking was my passion, I would definitely be found there.
