Long live King Felix! I knew before the year began that we wouldn't be all that great next year, but the team is finally making the move that should have been done two years ago. Out with the old, in with the new. With Felix Hernandez, Jeremy Reed, Adrien Beltre, Richie Sexson, and hopefully Bucky, we will be a team to reckon with in 2007. Go M's!

I recently had Second Wind play at my wedding and recommend them as a great dance band. I listened to many bands and picked Second Wind because of the lead singer. I liked his voice and new I wouldn't be cringing while the band played some of our favorite songs (highly likely with other local bands!!!). They play a good variety of classic rock (a little new stuff), swing and standards. If you give them enough warning and provide sheet music, they can practice new stuff ahead of time. They are about the same price as other dance bands I looked into. We had the 6-piece band, but they can also provide more horns for a 10- piece band. They really got the dance floor moving and we received many compliments from our guests on our choice.

It says something when I can see an art film and the latest SNL flop in the same theater. I try to only go to Landmark Theatres if I can, but I like knowing that I can also indulge my poor cinema tastes if I want to without going to a bigger theatre. I don't need huge screens and my favorite is the theater with the baby room...sometimes friends go in there and we talk through the whole movie...it's great!
It's blocks away from two other Landmark theaters so I can see most worthwhile movies that are playing, all within a 5 block radius. They have a multi-pack that makes the movies cheaper Sun-Thurs.

What a great place to see a movie. Beats the typical movie theater by a mile. From the comfy couches and seating areas, to the fantastic popcorn with white Parmesan, this is the destination place to to a movie with a friend, or several.

I have to admit I'm biased -- I've been taking classes with Hallie Kuperman every couple of years since before she even owned the Century Ballroom. But to me it is the best place in Seattle to go for a romantic evening out. What could be better than having a nice dinner (the menu is limited, but everything I've had has been very good), white tablecloths and all, then twirling 'round the floor with your girl (or guy) in your arms?
Despite being a lesbian-owned business on Capitol Hill, the Century is dominated most evenings by hetero couples. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I am very happy that Hallie recently added gay nights to the schedule. OutDancing happens on the third and fourth Friday of every month, and features a wide variety of dance music, from salsa and swing to two-step and disco. The crowd tends to be mostly women (including a lot of familiar faces from the Timberline, may it rest in peace), but there are several male regulars as well. There are plenty of people to fill the room with energy, but it is not nearly as crowded and sweaty as the popular salsa nights.
Don't know how to swing? Scared by salsa? Not to fear. There are classes before each dance, as well as a regular schedule of classes that meet several weeks in a row, and the instructors are great.

Granted, that may not be saying much as radio quality has really taken a nose dive in recent years (if I have to hear Crocodile Rock one more time...).
However, KEXP is fantastic! The djs are so on top of it - they really play the best and most interesting up-and-coming music talents. John, Cheryl, and Kevin are awesome! I owe almost everything I know about quality music to the fine folks at KEXP.
Tune in! 90.3 FM Seattle
