I've been looking for a welcoming place to worship in the northend and came upon this church. Though I grew up Catholic and have frequented other houses of worship, I haven't really found a place....yet.
The pastor we very nice and welcoming. The 630 Sunday night mass was quiet and reflective with an incredible sermon. The music was good too. Though the crowd was not as diverse as I am used to, I will give this place another visit.

Ballard Beavers, the mascot of Ballard Highschool. A great highschool located in Ballard area close by Market Street. They just rebuilt it about 5 years ago so it is still in very good condition and very clean and neat. The teachers are nice and will help you out with any problems. The school itself is fun and they hold many football games and dances so most people attend to those. It's also in a good, clean neighborhood and by a lot of good places to eat at lunchtime like Taco Bell, Zesto's, or Terriyakki.

Loyal Heights Elementary was a great school when I was a kid. It's a public school located in Ballard area. It's grades kindergarden through fiftth. I went here for all 6 years and loved it. The teachers are nice and make learning fun, and might even teach you in a grade higher level to understand middle school elements which helped me out big time. The field trips are fun and at a fair price, and there are also end of the year suprises for you, including field day and a carnival. If you live in Ballard area and if your child is ready for a public school to meet great teachers and friends, I recommend Loyal Heights!

More
This school in Madison Valley is a treasure in a sea of increasingly high-pressured independent schools. Grounded in the fundamentals of a traditional education, the Valley's hallmark is to teach to the child and aim to meet his/her needs individually. As a result you'll find a nurturing environment that places emphasis on development of the whole child as a confident, kind, engaged person of this world as much as on academics.
The school has 100 students enrolled in PreK-5th grade. The campus has an excellent playground and is situated in a residential neighborhood near Bush.

While every school these days has its problems, and Mount Rainier is no exception to that, MRHS is much better than most in the area. The staff is qualified, and cares for the students. While MRHS is not drug or thug free (I don't know of a local high school that is) they are much better than the others. The school offers extra curricular programs, including sports and other after school programs. If you have a choice, and are near here, this is a great option.

When we first went to a Nathan Hale open house, we weren't expecting much and frankly did not expect it to even make our short list. It had a bad reputation at the time and a poor history. However what we didn't know was how successful the principal, Mr Benson, had been in turning this school around. We found we LOVED the faculty. The school has a killer music and drama department, a new stadium, and over the summer a new theater was built (finally!). Mr Benson has since left, but we trust his replacement will keep the ball rolling!

More
Wedgwood Elementary is a top notch public elementary school that is comprised of grades one through five (weird - in my day, elementaries went through sixth grade!). The parents have been very involved in raising money for extending programs that have been cut by the city, such as music and art. There has been a fair bit of volunteer docent work going on as well, including the field of science! The building is decent, although there was a problem with lead in the pipes, it is under control now and supposedly was never hazardous (although it did give us pause!). Again, the parents - with the assistance of the principle - were responsible for seeing that issue was addressed. There's a before/after school program next door called Kids Time, reviewed separately.

Hilltop is a great school. They are an elementary K-5. The office staff is courteous and helpful, and very friendly. The administrative staff are very helpful as well, open minded to input from parents, and willing to go the extra mile for their students. The teaching staff are all very friendly and it is obvious they care a great deal for their students. The facility is clean, and updated. This is a good overall school, especially considering it isn’t in the best area of town.

I have a 15 month old who will be participating in the Little Goblins Halloween Carnival at Meadowbrook Community Center Saturday, October 22, 2005 (11am-1pm). The carnival is designed for the little guys and features games, prizes, food etc. You might also want to check out the other City of Seattle Community Centers for Halloween activities. I have attended a spooky swim at Rainier Beach Community Center and a Fright Night (not scary at all) in the past and have been immensely pleased with their Halloween alternatives. Hope this helps!

Jenny,
Have you ever been to John Marshall High School? The school does serve many students who have been expelled because the staff here is qualified to work with kids who have needs that often exceed the ability the school they have been sent from. The staff at John Marshall is highly qualified and chooses to work at John Marshall and is dedicated to making certain that the students can be successful in life. Please don't review a school that you have not been to and do not base your opinion on rumors.
