Our family's lives have been forever enriched by the fabulous musical programs available at the Suzuki Institute. Children as young as 4 can begin with a "sing and play" class to familiarize themselves with music sounds, ryhthm, and music theory. These classes are fun games that are interactive and instructional, but children are joyfully engaged and really have no idea that they are learning!
The Institute has many supportive instructors in both piano and strings, who have a passion and patience for teaching children. Kids have two lessons each week, one individual and one group lesson, and several recitals a year. One of our boys had piano instruction for 6 years before moving on to trumpet, our other is in his 6th year of violin. This school does teach children to read music, although I understand that some strict advocates of the "Suzuki method" do not.
There are other organizations like the Music School of the NW, just off Aurora on about 90th, that also have children's music programs. They also might be a good resource for finding teachers in your area. Good for you for helping to bring music into your child's life!

NW Community Yoga is the perfect community yoga center. Tucked into a quiet neighborhood, this small studio provides everything I need to regain center. The instructors are some of the best I've encountered. They are blessed with skills to gently lead a class at any level and guide a new or experienced yogi toward new levels.
I've taken regular classes with Diane for quite a while and recently begun to explore other instructors. They've all been wonderful.
The studio offers a variety of classes at various hours of the day. Too, they offer a variety of purchasing options from inexpensive drop in rates to discounted monthly or yearly user cards. I've never run into a class too full, and I've always come away feeling stronger, more centered and healthier.
Also, the special workshops are always worth the small extra cost!
If you're expecting a gym environment, this isn't the studio for you. If you like a quiet, private, intimate experience, this is the perfect studio for anyone in Ballard/Greenwood/Phinney Ridge area!

Moss Bay Rowing Club---Seattle!
Is it just too hot or do you feel like some exercise? This is a great place to get-away for an hour or all day. A great couple event when you want play in the city. Of course, it is perfect to go to Lake Union and have some solo time out in your rental kayak. The friendly staff will have you in the water quickly---off you go with your oar, life-vest and kayak. There are many other boats in the water; sail and motor. Watch out for the Float Planes. I like to Kayak around the houseboats and to the north end of Lake Union to Gas Works Park.
In addition to Kayaks, Moss Bay has Rowing Shells and Sail Boats rentals. The summer season runs from June 12th to September 15th.
Check out their website. Singles, couples, groups, families, kids and tourists, everyone will find this a winner.

If you live in the Ravenna neighborhood and have kids you should know about this community center. They host classes and open gyms but also in the afternoons they have a play space open for little tykes. For just a couple bucks the kids have access to plastic cars, slides, books- all indoors out of the rain. Careful though- gets crowded on gloomy days.

Went to see the opening of "Durang 7" an evening of Christopher Durang one acts this Halloween weekend. It was an perfect way to start the eveening off as the plays had enough surreal out this world humor. And there were even some cool costumes thrown in. It's amazing how well the plays hold together ranging from theater parodies, political satire, to somethinf unexpectedly poignant ("Funeral Parlor"). The cast is awesome and the intimate setting really makes this work as a kind of grown up cabaret. thiis will play through 22nd November so check it out. You won't be dissapointed

It was so hard for me to find child care for my daughter. The small in home providers just don't have the activities that my daughter loves but are able to give more personal care. The big chains have all the activities but not enough supervision. Mother's Place is the perfect marriage of the two. They have a large outdoor play area, arts, crafts, sciences, swimming, computers, everything. Most important my little one loves it there. She wants to go every day.

I had never even touched a sewing machine when I signed up for a sewing class through the community college, and now I have no FEAR! I took a sewing class with Cathy, along with 7 other people, and we all learned the basics and gained the confidence to work on our own projects. She was the most patient instructor ever. Great instruction! I highly recommend checking this place out.

Great school for infants to Pre-K. NAEYC standards are used to the fullest meaning ratios are low, teachers are educated, and the kids follow a creative curriculum. Staffing is stable. Parents run this center and see to it that the administration and staff receive competitive salaries and benefits. All rooms are bi-lingual. They have a relationship with Americorp Reading Program as well as a Grandparent Volunteer Program.

I LOVE coming to this place!! There's a lot of stuff crammed together in a small space and the parking can be difficult, but it's worth coming to check it out if this strikes your interest bone! They have percussion from all over the world - not just the African drums! I also like the fact that they have resources for teachers there (I'm certified to teach music) and instruments for little ones - my nearly 3 year-old has a great collection.
