The Ballard Fred Meyer is great. They have it all at this place: Wa-Mu, Starbucks (but they also have their own interior cafe place), coinstar, day care, jeweler, groceries, clothing, home/garden stuff, furniture, craft items, natural food, bulk food, and U-Scan.
I feel better about Fred Meyer, because even though they are a chain, they're also local. They have a great return policy and nice, friendly employees.
It can be crazy during peak shopping times, so I try to go in the early morning or late at night (they close at 11pm!).

I've never been to a Fred Meyer before I went to the one in Ballard. Wow! It's like Kmart meets Safeway. Amazing. You can find all of the home products you need at pretty reasonable prices, and then go over and get groceries for dinner. Some of the stuff can be pretty cheezy, but it's an interesting place to check out if you're in a bind. Mind you, I got a little weirded out buying my groceries there, but if you're really needing to cut some corners...

I can always find furniture at Fred Meyer at a wonderful price. I found the greatest book case the other day for only $39.99. Mike helped me carry it out to my car and everything.
