Happily this place is right across the street from the building I work in downtown. They serve up a really delicious cup of coffee, nice and rich and strong without being bitter. Perhaps the nicest touch about a visit to cafe Ladro is to see what kind of pretty design you get in your latte foam. It feels so wrong to put a lid on your cup, if you're taking it to go!

Yes, Cafe Ladro makes a great cup of coffee at all of their locations, but the real fun is the little design they make in the foam on the top! They feel more like artists than assembly line fast food, and they have a warm inviting atmosphere. Go grab a cup if you haven't tried it yet!

I love this place! The scene is a bit more artsy compared to the normal Starbucks and Tully's. I also like their coffee too, it's stronger and better tasting. They also have really good tasting muffins and scones. There are a few of them around town, there's one in Queen Anne, Freemont, Capitol Hill, and Downtown. I wish there was one near my work place, unfortunately, I'm surrounded by Starbucks and that's where I always get my coffee when I'm at work. I'm not saying I don't like Starbucks, I just prefer the little businesses over the big, corporate, monopoly--Starbucks. I like supporting the underdogs! =)

Cafe Ladro is one of the few organic coffee places I've found in the city. I used to frequent the downtown location because it was just a couple blocks from my office. Today I hit the one on Capitol Hill. There are both consistently good.
The coffee at Ladro is good. The baristas are funky and friendly. The pastries are good (downtown they have a carrot cake cupcake that is fantastic).
Wi-fi is not free, but the nice folks at the store today offered to give me the credentials to bypass the payment (I declined). I suspect this is SOP.

I am not your half-caf-skim-triple-mocha-w/sprinkle-of-nutmeg coffee drinker. But I do love a good cup of drip and can also appreciate a well-made espresso drink. Cafe Ladro can probably handle any kind of drink order you throw at them, but they also deliver the drink with style and without pretense.
Down to the little swirling design made where the espresso strikes the cream, the baristas at Cafe Ladro pay attention to detail. And it is done in a casual and friendly fashion that almost feels like you're in a friend's kitchen who just bought a state-of-the-art espresso machine. Oh, except they expect you to pay them for it. But the prices are aligned with the going rate anyplace else. And I'd rather spend my money here than hand it to some snobby bean-brewer who doesn't respect the art or have the humor to recognize it's just coffee.

years ago when hubby saw an indy coffee shop open between a starbucks and tully's, he laughed. now we know not to laugh - that's the only place we'll get our coffee. first and most importantly, their coffee is delish! doesn't taste like cardboard like some other places that shall remain nameless. secondly, their prices are fair. third, their baristas rock - there can be a line out the door and there's still not going to be a long wait for your drinks. and finally, they have amazing pastries, pie, etc!

In a city that is known for coffee this is a bold statement to make, but it is true. It is all fair trade coffee, too. But more important is the atmospere. Its a great place to sit and read or surf the web when you want some alone time. But it is also a fantastic place to meet friends and be loud and boisterous. The best of all worlds.
