I didn't realize how popular this place was until I start coming here for meetings. Lots of people in this area stop by here for cup of joe and lunch food during lunch. Their coffee is very dark roasted and flavorful. Service isn't as fast as starbucks, but you get the attention to detail. I had ordered a bagel toasted with butter, but I got an untoasted bagel with block of butter :(. Though their lunch sandwiches looked yummy but too bad I didn't see the menu until after I ordered. Lots of seating area, and quick turn around of customers so haven't had to wait yet. I'd say this is probably one of the best coffee shops in Pioneer Sq area!

It's pleasing to know that their coffee is good, they emphasize an aesthetic and actually have some taste. This isn't a museum, of course, but they do show art, perhaps giving a nod to the Bauhaus movement. But the vibrant artwalk that once thrived in Pioneer Square is a mere shell of what it once was. However, Zeitgeist in Pioneer Square is in an ideal non-alcohol location for some of those working in the area to relax and wait for rush hour to end, instead of facing the demoralizing commute during "rush hour". Of course, they do have free internet access.

If I worked near or in Pioneer Square Zeitgeist Coffee would be my normal coffee store. It's a great space. It pours good coffee. Service is really friendly. Pastry is good (I'm told - I didn't indulge). Wireless is free.
The store is huge so there doesn't seem to be any problem finding a chair. And it's consistently busy, even though it's located less than a block from Starbucks. It was an eclectic crowd, from construction workers to Amtrak workers, software startup guys to people in suits. I was there for over an hour and I never saw the line get shorter than 3 deep.
If you're around Pioneer Square and you crave a caffiene hit, seek this place out.

Get up early on a weekend morning, especially a cold weekend morning, and go walk around Pioneer Square. It might seem a little dark and desolate. You are too early for underground tours. Too early for football fans. Way too early for bar-hoppers.
And then you happen upon Zeitgeist Coffee. A warm and cozy spot with some unique, built-in wooden seating, no wonder it's popular.

This place is what a coffee shop should be. No aprons, no uniforms, no push to make you get a scone- just great coffee and fast service. They also have sandwiches and soup for lunch- which are quite scrumptious- and they will occasionally have cupcakes that are out of this world. One bite and you will crave them for days! If you are in the Pioneer Square area, I suggest coming on in!

I often take the early morning Amtrak to Portland and this is my favorite place to kill half and hour before departure.
I love the Zeitgeist asthetic - they have the whole retro travel / art deco / exposed brick loft style thing going. It's the perfect place to set the mood for a train journey.
There is art for sale on the wall, a selection of newspapers, and big picture windows to watch the mixed SODO / Pioneer Square crowd wander by.
