This was such a surprise! When I heard we were taking the train to Portland, I was...shall we say, not looking forward to it. I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable this was. While it wasn't exactly luxurious, it was very comfortable and roomy. We got to sit back, visit, play some cards and just relax. The scenery is so much prettier than what you see from I-5 and the very best part--no traffic! At all! I will never drive to Portland again, but I do plan on taking the train again very soon.

Cascades is not Coast Starlight.....
The Cascades to Portland is a great trip. The cars are Spanish Talgos and ride very nicely. the Coast Starlight cars are Pullmans and they rock back...

The Cascades to Portland is a great trip. The cars are Spanish Talgos and ride very nicely. the Coast Starlight cars are Pullmans and they rock back and forth a lot. Sort of a BMW vs a Buick kind of ride. Take the Cascades. Its a better experience.

This was such a surprise! When I heard we were taking the train to Portland, I was...shall we say, not looking forward to it. I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable this was. While it wasn't exactly luxurious, it was very comfortable and roomy. We got to sit back, visit, play some cards and just relax.
