I moved to Phoenix from Seattle one year ago and am still in search of an Easy Street Record style shop down here in the desert. The energy, superb customer assistance and awesome selection lured me in to Easy Street Records every time i had $100 to drop on tunes. They have a second-hand CD section upstairs that always has the album i need to complete my collection. I am such a fan of Easy Street Records, I slapped their sticker on the back of my Subaru for all the west to see! Thanks Easy Street!
Pros: Seattle embiance, diverse customer base
Cons: none

Scarecrow is an amazing resource, its practically a warehouse full of movies. From forgotten classics, to the newest blockbusters they seem to have everything. The staff are amazing too. If you can't remember the name of a movie, and you tell them the basic plot (or even a memorable scene) they can usually track it down.
As for their film snob attitude - I've never encountered it, and have found their customer service to be well above average.
Their late fees are high - so pay attention and get your movies back in time.
Pros: Over 100,000 movies
Cons: high late fees

I frequent many of the Half Price Books locations and I especially love the fiction section at this location. They also have a great film section. There seems to be aisles and aisles of fiction and you can easily find something you want to read. All paperbacks are half their imprinted price. There is often great deals in their clearance section where you can find books for under $3.
And if you are looking for VHS tapes they have quite a large selection for cheap prices.

these guys really know music. if you are looking to sell music, they buy all kinds of eclectic things and pay a FAIR price. Sometimes the staff can be a little snobbish when it comes to answering simple questions. (it is the Hi-Fidelity Syndrome.) Overall, though a great place to shop.
PROS: great staff, great neighborhood
CONS: Parking can be a pain.

Amazon has just about any book you are looking for, often even books the large and impressive King County libarary system doesn't cary. Prices are decent, usually a few dollars less than other national retail book stores. I especially enjoy their pre-order service, no waiting in long lines for long anticipated titles because your copy arrives in your mailbox in a timely manner after the release date.

One of the best local record shops in Seattle. Great deals on CDs, wide selection of music even outside of the mainstream. My favorite part of the store is that they have a specific section for local music and their in store concerts from a lot of cool bands. It is a cool place to have up close and personal shows from great artists.

I'm not one to normally supports big chains, but Target has helped me too often for me not to give it a great review! Every time I cannot find a good quality gift at an agreeable price...I head here. Especailly for kid's toys. They pick appropriate and parent approved items that are very affordable! They also have home "stuff" that's in style - okay, their not the highest quality, but for those of us who may change homes or styles pretty often, it's a great option.

This was by far the coolest record store i've ever been to. The owner has such a passion for music and can find exactly what you need even if you dont have the album name. Its easy to find the record your looking for and there is probably atleast 5 copies to choose from. I dig it there! and they have shows on the weekend.
Pros: TONS of records, Locally owned, Good music playing & will play the record you want to buy.
Cons: Hard to find.

there is a pretty good selection here, but the jazz/blues sections are rather small. If you are looking for rock/indie/electronics, this is a great place to go. Also there is a skufs section with better prices.

Jive Time just recently opened it's welcome 2nd location on Pine St. It's sister store in Frmont can seem a bit too far to travel too. I say the more the merrier when it comes to records. Jive Time specializes in punk, new wave, no wave, and post punk . Check it out!
