I'd be pretty ticked if an attorney failed to tell me some of the strategies for handling an estate and avoiding probate. In fact, I would first wonder if the attorney is indeed an estate planning attorney. Not all attorneys can do all kinds of work - a business attorney doesn't have the same skills as an estate attorney. Perhaps you should get a better attorney recommendation.
Actually, when it comes to estate planning you should really be looking at input from multiple angles: tax, legal, and administration.
To that point, I have mentioned Garvey Schubert Barer as having some excellent attorneys. I've used these folks for my own estate planning, I've referred Tim, and he's also spoken at client education functions that I put on. Also good about working with them is the firm is large enough to have many specialties within one facility so if you need help outside the scope of what one attorney specializes in your contact can get help from a knowledgeable colleague. A former review for the firm was done on JB by me here: http://www.judysbook.com/cities/seattle/BtoB~Business-Attorneys/23534363/p1/Garvey_Schubert_Barer.htm
Specifically, I would recommend Tim Burkart.

Also, you might consider looking into someone like the folks at Laird Norton Tyee for larger estates (I believe $5M is the minimum) for trust administration help. I like Mary Kazlusky for her extensive knowledge and experience but she is also a manager there so she likely has many good staff working with her:

I love this place too! I got a PMB from them for cheaper then the USPS offered, plus it is so much nicer to go in to the Alki Mail and Dispatch then to the Post Office. They have a lovely selection of cards, fax machines, shipping services, and I can get packages shipped there so I don't have to worry about packages being left outside my doorstep. I defenitely recommend checking them out for coffee or mailing services.

Rich Black, of Black, Lowe and Graham, provides us with top-level advice and service for exceptionally reasonable rates. I can't imagine finding a better IP lawyer. We are a start-up research-based workplace health, wellness and productivity management group with a lot of IP material to protect. Rich educated us about the big picture then laid out the plan, based on our budget and timeline. We couldn't be more satisfied with the service. Rich and his associates are professional, responsive, and friendly.

There are a lot of laws that supposedly defend tenants, but really the deck is stacked in favor of property owners. (And if you haven't heard already, the legal system's design favors whoever pays the most money to win, which is why so many innocent people would rather pay than go to court.) This probably isn't obvious until after you've already been evicted, but you may discover the following: The court commissioners are jaded from hearing people lie to them all the time. The attorneys at the free legal clinic at the courthouse don't even get an hour to prepare your case at the show-cause hearing and probably won't be able to help you to prepare a shred of evidence in your favor. The police don't even know that they are enforce the "wrongful eviction clause" of the "Just Cause Eviction Ordinance" and will even deny that they do when presented with a copy of the part of the municipal code that says that they do so. Therefore, you will need to hire a professional with years in the business who can stand up to the "bottom feeders of the legal system" that often represent property owners that sometimes use sleazy tricks to win cases. David Leen knows more about this obscure area of law than perhaps anyone else in the legal system in Seattle.

More
I am not an attorney and not giving legal advice. I have a clean driving record, and encourage responsibility. But I also recognize that the police like to trick people into providing evidence that can be used against themselves in traffic court, by asking "Do you know how fast you were going?" If you answer that question with a specific number, you have probably just lost your case. Jeannie has successfully defended "a friend of mine" twice, and this friend did not give the police a specific speed. So you could respond with something like "I thought that I was going approximately with the flow of traffic." If the police persist with further leading questions, you could say "officer, I don't want to be argumentative, may just I sign my ticket and go?" Remember, the damage to your driving record could shoot the price of your insurance through the roof, so be truthful but not stupid, and good luck.

They do a great job with the "Washington LawHelp" website http://www.washingtonlawhelp.org that they maintain, which provides great information and is a good adjunct to Nolo.com resources. But face it, in our current legal system thousands of innocent people are delcared guilty every year, and the rich get the sort of legal representation that can literally let them get away with murder, like OJ Simpson. But they may help you to not get burned as badly!

Sharon Best Escrow, part of Sharon
Best Attorney is one of the best
escrow companies in Seattle. I can
say this having worked with perhaps
all of them. Margee, one of the
closers is very professional and works
with your customers needs. The
fees are lower than using a title
company and they will adjust their
hours to match yours. Now that
is good business.
