The stories ARE true. I wanted a non-traditional wedding gown and found something I liked at Marcella's. When they measured me, they ordered the dress two sizes too large (despite my protests) and when the dress arrived it had to be significantly altered because it was much to large. We I asked from some tweaks to the tailoring (which ended up costing me almost as much as the dress) the owner was annoyed and dismissive. A really bad experience overall and a place I would not recommend.

My experience in one try-on session was fine. The woman helping me was courteous, pleasant, and helpful. As far as bridal salon experiences go, it wasn't anything special. The dressing rooms were dark and small, and they have maybe two racks of gowns to choose from. They stocked very few accessories.
They did have a good selection of high-end designer gowns. The two I liked were $3600 and $5100. I didn't see anything under $2K. But I was just shopping for "a gown" in general, not a particular designer, and I certainly wasn't planning on spending nearly that much. I was slightly irked at the beginning when they asked for my budget, but I can see that as a business necessity for their niche market.

I am actually suprised by the reviews here. I had a good experience at Marcellas. The atmosphere was serene and very upscale--which is nice during the hectic, at times frenetic engagement/wedding planning time.
Finding the dress was easy--they were having a trunk show, but went out of there way to pull out dresses that were not part of the show that they thought would be flattering. In the end I went with one from the trunk show. My sister was with me and we both found the sales person to be quite honest about which dresses didn't look good. Since my mom couldn't make it in to town (I had a failry short engagement of 7 months, so needed to order my dress quickly), they were very happy to have us come in again to try on the sample for her (after the order was already made). After ordering the dress the owner called me because she wasn't sure the size we ordered was correct for my measurements. I went back in and had the head seamstress measure me and confirm the size was correct. (This did take two tries as the owner missed my first re-measuring appt due to illness--which I found out once I arrived since she kept her own schedule and no one knew to call me).
My dress came in a month early!!! I was shocked and it was very comforting.
They also beautifully altered a veil from my sisters wedding--they added a blusher by moving the comb on the veil and finished the edges on the blusher to match the train. I found my jewelry and headpiece here as well (which both got a lot of complements at my wedding, people even assumed my earrings were real and an heirloom).
My only complaint was with the alterations. The first round was not great--not enough was done. The owner, however, instructed the seamstress how to make the necessary changes. After that for my next two appointments, I made sure the owner would be there too. They had to ship my dress for me to the wedding location and it arrived looking great. In the end the dress fit beautifully and I got many, many compliments. A spine did poke through the top of the dress (not noticible, but I could feel it), but not sure if that was Marcellas' or the dress maker's (Amsale) fault.
I enjoyed the tone of the store, even through its redecoration. Overall a very positive experience and I have recommended it to my friends, just be very clear and demanding on the alterations and you will feel good and look great.

After reading horror stories about bridal salons in general and Marcella’s in particular, I was hesitant to make an appointment. They are the only store in Seattle to carry several of the lines I was particularly interested in so I decided to give them a try. This was in February and I just now – in July – ordered my dress. I was probably one of their most indecisive brides and they were patient the entire time. In fact, Kim (the extremely nice woman who helped me during each of my 5 appointments) was adamant I not order a dress until I was sure it was ‘the one.’ I put a deposit down on a dress I thought I loved and Kim even gave me the trunk show discount even though the trunk show was over (but I’d tried it on for the first time at a trunk show). I ended up emailing her a few days after putting the money down and asked if she could hold off placing the order. There was one more dress I decided I had to see. They didn’t carry it in the store but Kim offered to have it FedEx’d (at their expense) so I could try it on (there was a trunk show in 3 weeks that would have the dress so I decided to wait until then). To make a short story long, once I tried on the dress, I was so glad I had waited & grateful I had not been pressured into making a decision. I don’t have my dress yet (it’ll be a few months) but so far my experience with them has been wonderful.

Marcella's la Boutique promises high-end service to match its high-end gowns. Sadly, they come far short of delivering.
See the negative postings on seattle.citysearch.com. They have also earned an unsatisfactory rating from the Better Business Bureau.
At my Marcella’s appointment, I was rushed, rudely pressured to make a decision and treated with impatience when I asked to think it over. The gown I ordered took 3 months longer than I was promised to arrive. When I tried calling on the status of my gown, the salesperson told me that she could not give me information because the owners keep customer files at their house, not at the store. Moreover, the staff flat out lied to me about the details of my contract. The owners then threatened me when I contested their dishonesty.
Please, save yourself a nightmare and try the region’s many other bridal shops before you go to Marcella’s.
