I've always kept my bowling desires on the down low. It was such a geeky thing to do, and Alex and I were somewhat embarrassed that we had bought our own bowling shoes. Imagine my surprise when I walked into Sunset Bowl on Saturday night to find it absolutely CROWDED with people. It seemed more like a club than a bowling alley. With a bar and restaurant attached, people were gussied up and partying away. I even saw people hitting on each other. Like attractive people. At a bowling alley?! I don't get it.
Our group waited about an hour and a half for the lane before we finally gave up. But not before having some embarrassing fun in the little arcade.

Sunet Bowl is pretty much a dive. Its a lively place to have some drunken bowling and karaoke fun with friends on a weekend. It can take awhile to get a lane on busy nights, so show up earlier, put your name down on the list for a lane, and snack on some fries in the cafeteria while you wait.
Just stay out of the arcade, the machines are all broken and will take your money. Plus, they have signs up everywhere that say "play at your own risk, no refunds" and don't make any effort to put signs up when games are broken and stealing people's money. At any rate, the games in there are pretty lame, but they have Dance Dance Revolution Extreme if you're up for some dancing.

Decent lanes and not always crowded. At least a decent crowd goes there. Avoid Fri/Sat nights if you don’t want to be around youngsters and teenagers. Prices are nice and they have a large variety of leagues you can join, if that’s your interest.
Affordably priced snack bar and drinking bar. Some video games as well. Fun for the whole family. Keep eye out for buy-one-get-one-free coupons on the back of your Safeway receipt.

There are always tons of people here, which makes it more fun. Weekend nights is "Bowl in the Dark' or some such thing, where they turn off the lights and the pins and balls glow in the dark. This is mostly attended by teenagers and the like.
This is a really fun place to go, especially if you live in the boonies of Seattle, like Ballard and Crown Hill.
Tons of fun, lots of people, lots of fun and not expensive at all!

I used to go to Sunset whenever I got the itch to bowl even though I lived in Capital Hill. It's the total kitsch 70's decor with a greasy spoon diner, small dark bar with bowling pin Bud and all the normal accoutrements. The crowd there is pretty mixed, but definitely tend to be on the younger hipster side.
Nonetheless, its a fun place with a great atmosphere. If they didn't build a bowling alley onto the Garage in Cap hill, I would probably still go there.

The place is pretty huge as far as bowling alleys and it surprisingly clean!
The atmosphere is great and the only problem tends to be the line you may find yourself waiting in to bowl (this is key on weekends).
If you like bowling or not give Sunset bowl a shot!
I enjoyed it and that is saying alot!

Sunset Bowl is smoky and a bit grimy, but overall it's a decent place to bowl. The best deal is on Sunday, when you can rent the lane for a reasonable cost and have a whole group bowl for not much money. The lanes also tend to be less crowded and smoky at that time so it's a great time to bring kids.

I use to go here a lot when I was under 21 to go bowling and hang out with friends but its is always busy on Fridays and weekends. There are a lot of places that are better like Kenmore and Skyway. If you prefer to wait instead of actually bowling, you should come here but other wise do not. The drinks at Skyway and Kenmore are also cheaper and if you want to gamble there are casinos in those two also. Oh yeah...Very expensive

Sunset bowl has been a good place to visit in Ballard for some time. With a group of friends it can be a great and memorable evening. On the flipside, the environment is incredibly smokey, the prices aren't cheap and the parking is ridiculous. Overall a good time and worth spending a few bucks. Word of advice, plan ahead. On Fri/Sat the wait can be quite extensive.

I'll be honest. I'm no bowler. I am a rec bowler only and bowl maybe twice a year. For me its not something I take seriously. I don't think I've ever broken 175. With that said, I'll tell you that I really like Sunset Bowl. Yes, its sort of like every other bowling alley in the world, but at least its clean and the people working there were nice. They also have a pretty decent arcade. Those are definitely in short supply nowadays! So, they have nice people there, clean facilities, lots of available balls to use, oh...and the shoes were clean too. A+!
