Located on Capitol Hill, Bailey Coy has always been a source of great new books to read. They have a nice display of new books w/ written recommendations from those on staff that have read them. Even better, they're not your typical mass market releases, they're books from local authors or newer authors that I wouldn't have heard about otherwise. Some people think they're clever and ask for recommendations only to buy at Amazon where they think they're getting a better deal. Keep it up and Bailey Coy will go the way of the dinosaurs and you'll have nothing to read but Tom Clancy and Ann Coulter. If you do end up paying $2 extra a book, get over it, b/c Bailey Coy also has a frequent buyers card, which ends up being equivalent to a free book after reading 10. And, if they don't have one in stock they'll order it for you.

This is a great local business and worth the visit if you're in the neighborhood. The staff and owner are always helpful and extremely well read (while that should go without saying, in this case it is worth mentioning) and they can order almost anything that they don't specifically carry at the moment. They also have a great selection of cards, the new paperback releases are always well displayed and accessible, and the staff reviews have repeatedly guided me to many an excellent read. The magazine section isn't what it used to be, but there is plenty of other material of interest to distract from that fact. The children's section is sweet and well set up, with a great selection. A little-known tip: They validate parking from across the street, under the QFC. Great hours too, open surprisingly late for when you don't know where to wander.

We borrow from the library kids books and things that are consumable, but there are still so many books that are keepers out there. We either buy via addall.com (a great book comparison site), half.com if they are generic books. Costco also has very low prices on high runner books. But, the books we love, we go to Bailey-Coy. Its a small speciality bookstore. Feels like we are helping the community when we do that. They've been around for years on Capital Hill. The original Bailey and Coy are out of there, but the new owners have kept it up. Also, you can get validation if you park across the street in the QFC underground lot.

Bailey-Coy Books is a small bookstore done really well. I've spent long spells in there, reading whole bunches of little cards with staff recommendations, and being guided by them down avenues I wouldn't otherwise have found. Who'd have thought that in a gay/lesbian-accented Capitol Hill bookstore I would have followed a staff person's high praise and left with a novel (Gilead) about an aging midwestern minister's gentle reflections on his life? Bailey-Coy also has some beautiful local artists' notecards for sale.

I also love walking to Bailey Coy and knowing that I won't be overwhelmed by floors of selections but rather find an interesting assortment of books from Art to Cookbooks to Travel books to Kid's books to Metaphysical books to Science Fiction and everything else. All inside a shop that has very informed and helpful staff. I also love the reviews of books written by the staff and stuck to the shelf so you can get a person;s opinion of a book you may never have heard of.

I can't seem to wander down Broadway without stopping in to browse, and 9 times out of 10 it seems I buy something. Because it's a small store Bailey-Coy isn't the best place to go if you have a specific title in mind. On the other hand, if you just want to browse, see what's new and possibly stumble on something you wouldn't have otherwise found, it is fantastic. Larger bookstores never seem to get this, they generally concentrate on best sellers in their most popular categories. The crowd isn't always right and Bailey-Coy gets this. They recommend things based on employees taste. Sometimes I agree with them sometimes I don't, but I'm always appreciative of the unique viewpoint. Thanks Bailey-Coy!

When I have a lot of money some day, I am going to go into Bailey Coy and buy like 100 books. They pick the most interesting books. I could spend hours sitting on the step and reading. and they also have half-priced books for the cost-conscious. I am particularly impressed by their two discount policies. 1: they have a quote outside and, if you guess what book it's from, you get 20% off any book. 2: if you buy 10 books, they give you a gift certificate worth the *average price* of the books you've bought. So if you're buying expensive books, you get one free.
