Cafe Allegro has been there forever. I think it's the first coffee house that existed, back before Starbucks, before coffee houses were even known outside of the university and its bohemian groupies and perpetual grad students. The integrity of the place is unbroken. It's hard to review, because I now go there just to enter their time machine and relive intellectual liaisons with people long gone. The Allegro has a quiet room in back, good for studying, and a bulletin board that I've stood in front of at strange junctures of my life, contemplating the next group household. On sunny days people and their dogs sit out on the cement in the alley that it opens onto. Inside, it's hard to articulate its charm: it's not the most artful layout, but it's got a simplicity that grows on you. Bare bricks, plain wood, and it's an easy place to be alone in. The coffee and tea, of course, are excellent. The pastries are so-so, but then, that's not what you came for.

The Richmond Beach Coffee Company is a warm inviting coffee shop. The food and coffee is amazing and I've tried both hot and cold items from their selection. Much more laid back than your typical starbucks, there are always tables or chairs to use and sitting outside on a nice day is perfect. The servers are great and there is even a drive through. Definitely recommend if you're going to sit and enjoy your coffee with a friend rather than rushing off somewhere.

Bear is great! He's knowledgeable, friendly and makes everyone who comes in welcome, and even part of the family so to speak. The selection covers most everything you can think of, with an emphasis on imported and Northwest wines. Prices are quite reasonable. This place is a real gem!
Pros: selection, knowledgable staff, friendly
Cons: street parking

Remember the scene where WInston Wolf (Pulp Fiction) looks over at Tarantino and raises his mug in adoration of that cuppa joe? That was Caffe Vita in the cup. This bean juice has got to be one of the smoothest, creamiest pulls off a La Marzocco machine I've ever had. If you're staying downtown, make the mile jaunt north past the Space Needle to have a grande latte.

They try to get you in with this touchy-feely, then slam you with corporate value-system. Fuehrer Paul Allen owns the property, Whole Foods own their employees, and the whole of Puget Sound is taken in with their pseudo-organic corporate greed. Don't shop here unless you have to. There are smaller local companies to support!

Shinka on the Ave is the best tea place in Seattle. It has the normal bubble tea stuff as well as real teas mixed with it. This place is especially nice in the summer when it gets hot because of their iced and slushy drinks. They are also open late for late night studying. The only problem with this place is that there is not parking except on the streets.

Oh my GOD, the smoked jalepeno cream cheese is AMAZING. Order it spread on a toasted bagel and you will not be sorry. Perfectly savory, smoky, and creamy all at once paired with the chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside bagels... it's heaven with a hole in the middle. The bagels are a tad on the pricey side, but worth every penny. Yum yum.

8. Oh ! And breakfast too! My heart be still!
This place is especially great when the owner is working. He's super-attentive, sweet, and easy on the eyes. Alas - he's spoken for!
