This is the place one could browse for hours. The variety of spices, cookbooks, fresh ingredients related to all things Spanish is phenominal. Not only does the new location smell grrrreat but you can everything you need to make the meal your stomach growls for. Giant paella pans, sauces and all sorts of secret ingredients that can make or break a good tapas party. They are knowledgable, and very willing to help.
Pros: Variety and depth of product offerings, special, limited Spanish wines and good values too.
Cons: Avoid the early part of the week when deliveries or something has the staff too busy to stop and help.

You can stop in and say hello! to Manny and Roger and get a keg to go now at their brewery in Georgetown. If you haven't had either, you are truly missing out, both are among the best beers out there and trust me, I've had more than a few (hundred) Go visit them next time you need a keg (or a pony for that matter-or even a growler!)

This is a total no-brainer: Anyone who didn't vote Pete's Number One hasn't shopped there. Period. Pete's, along with Town & Country Market on Bainbridge, is so far superior to every other wine shop in the area that there really isn't any comparison. They're as knowledgeable as McCarthy & Scheiring, have more items than Esquin, and NOBODY beats their prices. I shop at every wine shop in this region and the only ones that compare at all are T&C and Grape Choice. I know this sounds pedantic as hell but I stand by every word. Pete's in in a class by itself. If you haven't shopped there, GO!!!
Pros: TWO locations, selection, PRICES!!!
Cons: None

Manhattan Drug Store has been around for years. In addition to having a pharmacy, they offer a wide variety of items for sale, including food products, gift items, etc. Recently I needed some small regional gifts to give to some foreign visitors. I found a wide vairety of candies made in Washington--just what I was looking for--at a reasonable price.

I wasn't expecting much based on their storefront, however I was pleasantly surprised when I went inside. By far the biggest selection of beers that I've seen anywhere in the Seattle area. I am partial to Belgian ales and they have a healthy selection of them.

I love the luxe style of this coffee house. It has over stuffed chairs, gilding and chandeliers. It is right on the main busy road to the freeway, but once you're inside it is very relaxing. The staff is a tad "hipper-than-thou" but so many baristas are these days. They do make a great latte with very nice foam, so someone is doing good training. The baked goods are pretty average.

McCarthy and Schiering is my favorite wine store. Good selection, knowledgeable friendly staff, range of prices. Joining their Vinter's Select club - $100 for a lifetime membership - gets you advance notice of specials as well as discount pricing on everything from a single bottle to multiple cases. The folks here will take the time to talk with you about your tastes in wine or a meal you're preparing and help you find a match. They'll encourage you to try something different, and I'd trust their recommendations. And they do special orders. Call them if you are looking for something specific and odds are they can find it for you.
There are 2 locations. I use the Ravenna store but hear the Queen Anne store is just as good in terms of selection and staff.
