Yunnie is the best bubYunnie is the best bubble tea cafe on the Ave. An impressive a-la-carte style menu allows you to craft your own, personal, bubble tea concoction. First of all, pick the style of beverage: milk tea, slushy, milk shake, or hot tea. Then, select your favorite among a wide variety of flavors, which can be enjoyed individually or combined with other flavors. Finally, add boba (the plump, delicious, tapioca “bubbles”). Grab a colorful straw, and enjoy! ble tea cafe on the Ave.

I just visited on Saturday night and I loved this place! The bartender/server was friendly and helpful and the wines were outstanding and reasonably priced. The music was good and the overall vibe of the place is very relaxed, like a great little neighborhood place should be. The menu was limited but good. The Salumi plate is delicious and the cheese plate was surprisingly good and varied. The only improvement I'd like to see is more staff. The guy working on Saturday was really busy and all by himself.
Pros: Good wine selection, interesting eats, fantastic service
Cons: None

They try to get you in with this touchy-feely, then slam you with corporate value-system. Fuehrer Paul Allen owns the property, Whole Foods own their employees, and the whole of Puget Sound is taken in with their pseudo-organic corporate greed. Don't shop here unless you have to. There are smaller local companies to support!

Bear is great! He's knowledgeable, friendly and makes everyone who comes in welcome, and even part of the family so to speak. The selection covers most everything you can think of, with an emphasis on imported and Northwest wines. Prices are quite reasonable. This place is a real gem!
Pros: selection, knowledgable staff, friendly
Cons: street parking

We initially dropped by Matador, not a bad place but it just wasn't our scene, we wanted somewhere cool and comfy to catch up with old friends. Walked across the street and were very pleasantly surprised with West 5. Really nice waitstaff, great mac and cheese, stiff drink. West Seattle is a bit out of the way, but will be making the trip back.

More
The 12th and Pine state-controlled liquor store is across the street from a police station, police parking lot, and cheap housing where people supposedly buy drugs. They're not supposed to sell alcohol to people who can't walk a straight line to the register or who urinate in their pants on the way. The cashiers keep alcohol at the registers to wipe their hands after handling wet wads of cash handed to them from the pockets of the homeless. Some minors attempt to purchase alcohol with fake IDs, apparently made with the same equipment and materials used by the Department of Motor Vehicles, but sometimes they use a nicer font for the letters, or at least they used to do so. The vile drinks imbibed by panhandlers are hidden because it's more likely that they will steal a plastic flask of 100 proof Monarch Vodka than a $100 bottle of Scotch. If the doors open a minute late, or even if they don't, the "Breakfast Club" (the alcoholics who make a beeline to the gin and vodka when the store opens) tends to get irate; sometimes they rattle the doors when they want them to be unlocked. There are more cameras on the crew than the customers, perhaps because many who get liquor store jobs are alcoholics. The staff members sometimes get threats from irate customers, but actually are pretty safe at night because the hoods and winos don't want to mess with their 'dealers'.

The Vineyard Wine Shop is a great neighborhood wine store. They have a very nice selection of wines, particularly Washington State wines. There are of course wines from California, Europe, Australia and South America as well. There is a wide range of pricing, and tasting events also. the owner is very friendly and well informed and happy to help you pick something just right for any occasion.
