I don't believe in supporting corporate salons like Gene Juarez and frankly I am not impressed with their ugly salon decor, product pricing and selection, or the overall "salon" experience they offer. However, I was referred to Colin at the downtown location and I think he is the best hairdresser in Seattle. I had almost given up on GJ until I found him. He is very intelligent, well educated on current hair trends, charming, and has an artistic eye for detail. In short, he's a great hairdresser. I highly recommend him and GJ should recognize they've got a very talented employee working for them. I've spent four years looking for a great hairdresser in Seattle and luckily I found Colin. Book an appointment with him.

Lily is a massage therapist at the downtown Seattle Gene Juarez spa, and I've got to say , she gave me the BEST massage I've ever had.
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but I have upper & lower back issues, and requested the "Ultimate Back & Neck Massage" when I booked the appointment. It was, more or less, a deep tissue massage on my neck & back that was, frankly, out of this world.
Gene Juarez is an experience in and of itself, but Lily worked some serious magic on my back! Included in this massage were also some foot massage time, and Lily also spent some time on my arms.
It was $100 plus tip (I left $15) for an hour for the whole she-bang.
I've had quite a few massages, but this one was by far the best. Call her NOW!!

i think i have finally decided that gene juarez is too conservative for me. they have high quality cuts, btu if you want something funky, you might want to try a place like vain. they certainly make you feel luxerious while you are there, so that's a plus. it just depends what you're looking for.

They ruined my hair, were rude to me, would not fix my hair properly and belittled my intelligence and concern for my hair and threatned to ban me from all gene juarez salons. I was a loyal customer for over 6 years and will never ever step foot in one of the locations again. the only like you when you are handing them money and not saying anything, I called corporate and was basically told to take a flying leap.

Gene Juarez will take away all your tensions. It's a little bit of heaven, a break from the absolute chaos of downtown Seattle. Just get past the millions of protestors and pettitioners, and you can spend an entire day with your head in the soft sand of this amazing salon. Everything they do is gold: from the make-up application to the day of beauty. Once you get inside, everything horrible you read in the newspaper that morning just melts away. The only thing that's left is a perfect pedicure and a warm-stone massage. Treat yourself!

The more I get my hair cut at Gene Juarez and the more I talk to others who do, the more I realize that it's a more luxerious twin of most hair salons. For those who like ambiance and want the spa feel, this is money well spent. You put on a robe and wait in a very upscale waiting area with all the cinnamon tea you can drink. You feel relaxed and surrounded by luxery. The hair cuts are like most places, hit or miss. Sometime's they're what you want, sometimes better, sometimes worse. So it depends on what you're looking for. If you want the get-away-from-it-all spa feel, go to G.J. If you just want a hair cut, you're money's probably as well spent at a cheaper place.

The downtown location is the "fanciest" yet not too overwhelming. My husband always goes here for massages, pedicures and manicures. Relax and Enjoy!

My husband and I have given the Downtown salon a total of 6 chances with 3 stylists, and was only pleased the first visit. I have NEVER had a stylist that has listened to what I actually wanted - for example, I told the stylist that I wear a headset all day at work, so I want my hair SHORT (above the ears) - what I got was almost to my jaw, and was told "you can tuck it behind your ears" The second time, I had to refuse to get out of the chair until I got enough cut off. Even worse, my calm and constructive letter to corporate was never answered. Go figure...... and go elsewhere
Pros: downtown
Cons: they suck

It would be alot easier for me to have a recommendation if my scheduled appointments were not cancelled by Gene Juarez. I scheduled appointments for myself and three other people. We each had two services. Unfortunately three of our services were cancelled on the day of our visit. Going one step further, nothing was done by the staff or management to accomodate us in any other way. For a leading spa I would think more would be done for a group of four w/eight services. I still haven't received a call from management with their apologies or anything to win our business back.
