i have been into the salon a few times and each time i have had my hair cut by Janae. before the first time i came in i was recommended by one of her other clients. they had said she was a very talented young stylist and i should check her out. so i did.
i showed up for my appointment and was greated by her with friendly smile. i sat in her chair and we went over what i wanted to do with my hair. she agreed the style i chose would be one that fit me very well and that would look great. she knew exactly what to do.
she took me over to get shampoo'd which was AMAZING. before this (i forgot to mention) i had never gotten my hair cut at a salon. didnt even know i was going to get shampoo. this was a plus and i wanted to fall asleep!!
while she cut my hair we talked about her cats and her being a styleist. also things about me and what i'm about. shes a wonderful conversationalist and listener! she was easy to talk to and made my first experience a great one. since then i have only gotten my hair cut by her and only at Vain.
what was the most surprising to me is the haircut ended up being only $15. i was told that salon cuts dont come cheap, but you get your moneys worth. i was ready to pay $30-$40 for a cut. i was so amazed at the price i left that much in my tip. to me shes defiantley worth that total!!
i think Vain is a great salon and Janae is a great stylist. i wouldnt want to go to any other salon and i have recommened Vain/Janae to almost everyone i know (they also compliment my hair all the time!)
Thank you Very much for all you do!
Pros: Environment, Service, Skillfulness of Stylists
Cons: Parking Price

I have been playing around with color for a few years and recently started going to David about a year ago when a friend recommended him. I like to change up my look pretty frequently which lead to disaster with my previous colorist but with David that has not been the case. He knows his stuff and has made some great suggestions about the type of color and shades to use which have allowed me to have a lot of fun, great looks. Vain is a fun place too. The front staff was really helpful and I loved the reminder call with my busy schedule.

So..I just moved back from New York a couple of months ago and my fear of having to find a new hair stylist was not small.
I had been going to the same person for god knows how long and trusted her with, as every woman knows, the most important thing, my hair.
Needless to say, my roots were growing out and my hair, looking less than sassy, needed some help.
Someone told me to call Vain because they did, oh so hot hair, and I picked Alexis, from some word of mouth.
Not only did she listen and understand my fear but she gave me the most kickass color and cut I have had in so long. She knocked my ex-favorite hairstylist out of the park.
And, she was funny and really sweet. I have no more fear about my hair in Seattle anymore and I get compliments ALL the time on the awesome job she did.
If you are smart, you will call and make an appointment with her NOW. You will not be sorry and the compliments you get will pay off anything you have to pay, which is not that much, either.
Run to her. She rocks and so will your hair.

After having one hairdresser for seven years, I did a lot of research before settling on Vain. The receptionist was very, very helpful in helping me find the right fit for my hair type.
I received a reminder call for my appointment, but she said it was at 2pm, three times she said that. I thought it was at noon, but with the move and the new job, I thought I was spacing.
I showed up at 2:00 the following day and was told my appointment was at noon. They figured I was a no-show and sent the hair dresser home. I told her about the reminder calls stating 2pm as my appointment time. She offered to reschedule for another day.
I'd driven to hellish Belltown, pouring rain and wind, taken half a day off work and pre-paid $10 in parking. I wasn't leaving that place without a haircut! They managed to find someone to do my hair and I waited about 20 minutes for her.
When I walked into the salon there was a bucket with towels in the center as there was a leak in the ceiling. I know things happen, but it did look pretty bad, they could've been a bit less messy with the towels or something. When I was brought to my hairdresser's chair, the last person's hair was all over. Gross. It stayed there until after my highlights were finished.
The hairdresser was very nice but gave me too many options. I was used to the hairdresser being the professional, asking me what I wanted and then just making it happen. Setting a color chart in my lap was too much for a layperson to process. The light in the place was terrible, I couldn't decipher one color from the next.
My hair looks fine. The color is barely noticeable which in a way is good and in a way is bad. I didn't want stripes, but I didn't spend $100 for the same hair I walked in with. The cut seems OK, but I haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet.
In the end, they took $20 off my bill and gave me a $10 coupon for my next visit. I'm not sure I'll return, it's a lot of money for OK.
Pros: Nice staff, cute dog in salon, not pretentious.
Cons: Bad lighting, unorganized, not much value.

I've been getting my hair cut and colored by Carly at Vain for several years. She's always done a phenomenal job with my hair (straight, chin length). Her prices have crept up -- at one point, I got several cuts elsewhere (Rudy's, Spins), because I could hardly bear the thought of spending over $40 for a cut. I noticed a huge difference in the quality of the cuts I got elsewhere, and soon was back at Vain. For what it's worth, Carly's cuts grow out so well that I can typically go up to 8 weeks between haircuts.
Color has been hit-or-miss, not so much because of the product or Carly's skills as it is because of miscommunication, I think. I usually have really good luck if I bring in photos showing the color I'd like.
The "scene" at Vain can be off-putting, if you're not a 20-something hipster, but I've seen all ages/types of people getting their hair cut there, and Carly and the people at the receptionist desk have been polite to me.

I went to Vain for the second time recently. My hairstylist cancelled at the last minute (10 min. before my appt!). The staff made a great effort to fit me in, but during the process I was bounced around among three stylists, including a student, for color and a cut. The cut and color were OK. I appreciate the effort to accomodate me, but was disappointed that I didn't get a top-quality cut and color.

I just visited Seattle's Vain salon for the first time & got a completely fresh update on my cut & colour. I now have these brilliant burgundy highlights where I just had blah plus my cut has more volume & lift then it's had in ages. I'm fairly new here, from the UK where this level of service would have cost a week's wages & they would have been much less friendly with it.
Also- I recommend the Vain art gallery alongside the salon. Excellent artwork.

I can't stop looking at my hair. Why? Because it's amazing! I found Vain on citysearch and decided to give it a try. I have been having a hard time finding a stylist who knows how to work with naturally curly hair. After explaining my hair type and problems the receptionist recommended that I see Carinn. They couldn't have been more right! First of all I knew I was in good hands when I saw her. She has really beautiful CURLY hair. After talking with me about my current routine of how I style my hair from shampoo, products to drying she gave me a lot of information and tips on how to make the most of my curly hair. She also asked about my personal style and what I wanted my hair to say about me. That was cool. I felt she was really listening too. One of the best things about seeing Carinn besides the awesome cut is she explained and showed me how to style my hair once I got home and was on my own. So far it's great and easier than what I was doing before. I still can't believe that this is my hair. I never knew my curly hair could look so good! I've already made an appointment to see Carinn again and next time we are going to do some color!!!
Pros: really cool atmosphere, friendly and helpful!
