Ramie and Rachel are the super hero duo who transformed my sinister hair into a work of art. Their staff is young, hip, artistic, but don't come with the attitude, just a desire to make you look fabulous. Victoria, the owner, does a great job of creating a high energy place that is down to earth and professional. My favorite part of my visit......the magazines were current!

I started going to Vain about 8 months ago and Bijou cuts my hair. She is excellent. I have recommended her to several friends and they feel the same way. She listens to what you want, gives advice if she thinks there might be better options (which I really appreciate) and gives an excellent haircut. I highly recommend her! Kristen

I just had a great time the other day with hair colorist Alexis. I had a total hair disaster with a box of store-bought dye and felt horrible about the way it turned out, but Alexis was able to restore it and make it look totally natural. Not only that, we also had a great conversation throughout my visit. A surprisingly fun experience, especially after thinking my hair was beyond repair. Thanks again, Alexis!!

I was referred to Alexis at Vain by a friend with very cute curly hair...so I took a chance and went. I am very very pleased. Alexis understood my past curly hair ordeals and immediately comforted me. She explained her experiences with curly hair (especially since she has very curly hair herself) and gave me some uselful tips for my own. She explained everything that she was doing and always checked in with me for my comfort level. She is a wonderful person and hairdresser. Highly recommeded.

Since I've been getting my hair done by Kelly, it's never looked better! I started coming to her for a standard foil and I keep coming back. My hair has gone above and beyond its natural style with color, and extentions. My brown, shoulder-length hair has been transformed to elbow-length with pink and blonde pieces peeking out the bottom. She has a creative edge; I know she'll always have an awesome idea and I'll never get bored! I highly recommend her, check her out! Pros: It's all good! Cons: None!

Been going here for a couple of years now and I have always been satisfied with my hair cuts. Roxie did an awesome job with my hair. I wanted to have my usual cut but edge it up a bit more then normal and she did a great job. It looked really stylish and the cut she gave, provided me different ways of how I can play with it. I really liked the fact that she did not sacrifice the length of my hair to give me the cut I desired and she did what I wanted but jazzed it up so the style looked flattering. You have to pay for parking or look for free, street parking. They also have a boutique area where you can purchase some cute accessories. Another plus about Vain is they do not push products which I hate more then anything and the place is really reasonable in terms of price. They also do a good color job as well. You can always call and ask the receptionist which hair stylist would be best for you in terms of your hair length and type and they've been really helpful. Pros: Professional stylists Cons: Parking

1/1/2008: Vain fits with the hipster crowd. I like their funky atmosphere but that's what they are. They tout on their own website that they cater to everyone but after a year of coming home with the 80's rock-star overly-straightened quasi-mullet I think I might have to break it off with Vain. I'm not in college anymore, I'm trying to fit in in the overly conservative financial district crowd. I hate conforming but when your paycheck is at stake and you're fresh out of college you have to just deal with it. I always request a little bit of layering (I have thick straight hair) but every time it gets layered from below my shoulders to above my ears and then my already straight hair is ironed out with a straightener to give me the "piecy edgy look." Now I have to iron my hair every day to make it not boing up and look like a mullet. I should have known better the last 3 times that this happened. Alas, I said I was growing my hair out and only wanted it cleaned up so I could grow it long and yet again I look like I belong in the game "Guitar Hero." I know I can go back for a touch up trim for free, even if it's to change the style, but frankly, there's hardly any hair left on my head. It's been thinned out so much that my super thick shoulder length hair is stringy and sad looking. I'm probably not going to be able to cut my hair for at least 4-6 months now. My other problem with Vain is there ever soaring prices. It's nearly impossible to get in for the rumored "$15 special" and my last friend that got the special had his hair cut by the girl who shampoos and sweeps the floor. Maybe if you're a guy with a clipper cut, and manage to get the $15 special and get a free trim out of it in 4 weeks it's worth it. But I'm tired of having my hair butchered to look like an 80's revival emo band. I think next time I'll go to the beauty school at Northgate, they usually don't mess up already straight hair that just needs the ends cleaned up to grow out. Pros: Hip atmosphere, $15 specials, free trim at 4 weeks Cons: bus from the u-district is a bit of a walk but worth it!

If you want cool atmosphere with hairstylists who actually care about what they do (and what you look like!), Vain's the place to go. I always feel like the haircuts and color I get are *mine* and not some look that every other girl walking down the street has. I recently got some color extension pieces by Kelly that turned out really well, and Ramie's cuts rule. I love VAIN! Check it out you will too. Pros: Creative style, friendly staff, atmosphere, late hours, boutique!
