From a formally, long-haired friend's recommendation, I selected Margi David for a Locks of Love haircut. Their staff is amazing. I was nervous, but MeriEsther did an awesome job. I have not had my hair this short since junior high, but it was for a great cause. If you're interested in donating, I highly recommend Margi David. Another perk is a free haircut. Call today for an appointment. The salon performs one Locks of Love haircut a day on M-Th before 4 pm. Free parking is available in the driveway just south of the main entrance. Caution: the driveway's exit is steep. To donate, hair must not be highlighted and minimum donation is 10". For more info, locksoflove dot org

I needed a cut and could not afford dear Graham at 7 (sorry Graham). I picked Greg at Margi & David because of Renee's review: she suggested Greg as a good stylist for curly hair. Yes, indeed, he is! He listened and I really like the cut.
On the down side, they kept me waiting with no explanation and did not offer the chance to change out of shirt and into robe. These negatives are mild, as I said, but at $60+/haircut, I expect a bit more professionalism.
The stars are for the cut, then, and less for the experience.

I tried out a new stylist at Margi David and had a great experience. I have pretty basic straight hair and needed a cut and also wanted to experiment with a little color-which can be scary. Marissa was great. She walked me through the whole process, explained how it was all going to work and even educated me on how to treat my hair after it was all over. And the bill-$118 with tip. That's very cheap in my opinion for a color and cut.
The only thing Marissa could have done better would be to make recommendations on my cut or color. She pretty much just responded to what I thought I wanted but it would have been great to hear more of her opinion. After all, she's the expert right?

I still insist this place is great, however I've since moved and Derby's location was no longer ideal. Considering my obscene laziness overrules anything and everything, including loyalty, I started looking for something closer. Margi David is across the street from work so I gave it a go.
The atmosphere is sterile but comfortable and thus far they've been really efficient on time. Appointments aren't too hard to secure on short notice, the prices are great and the stylists are friendly.

I don't like these guys as much as Hung at Salon Ciba but I did go there and they gave me a free buzz cut when I lost a bet and had to cut my hair. I don't think this is a regular offer nor a regular request...but it did endear the place to me. The place seemed busy, clean and is conveniently located.

I love Margi David Salon. For awhile, almost everyone I knew was going there! Margi David's stylists are hip, but approachable, friendly, and easy to talk to. They have an ongoing education program that I think helps to attract great talent and helps to ensure that you're seeing very capable people. They are open until 7pm Tuesday through Friday, which helps if you don't have time to stop in in the middle of a workday. Saturdays, they are only open until 5pm, so it can be hard to get a weekend appointment.
I see Marissa and I love what she does with my hair. My hair can be difficult, but Marissa's given me great cuts and perms. To help, I bring in photos of what I want and we talk about what appeals to me in the cuts/styles I ask for. Also, I've noticed that the stylists aren't afraid to consult one another, which I really appreciate. I prefer to have a stylist who is fully informed and weighs all options instead of having one who just acts like they know what they're doing.
Another thing I like about Margi David is that you see all types of customers in there. I never get the feeling that I'm too young/old/uncool to be there and that's very important to me.
My only gripes about the place are related to the prices. It wasn't so bad when I was just getting cuts, but this place is not for the faint of heart if you're getting multiple services (like a cut and color or cut and perm). Seeing Marissa has gotten more expensive as she's been promoted over the years (the salon has a graduated scale for services based on the experience of the stylist you see), but I enjoy coming in to see her so much that the miser in me stomachs the prices. It's markedly cheaper to see New Talent. Also, keep in mind that there are many places where you can pay even more and not get service this good. Also, they carry Bumble&bumble products, which aren't marked with price stickers, but don't come cheap.

I'm so happy with my new stylist, Kelli Anderson. She took time to talk about what I wanted and made suggestions about what she thought would look good. I'm really happy with the results!

I had a bad case of Crispy Curls since ninth grade. The only way I knew how to style my hair was with large amounts of mousse so the frizz wouldn't show! I decided to take a chance a this little salon on Eastlake and it ended up changing my life. An excellent hair dresser named Melissa took my ridiculous hair and transformed it into manageable curls. I now am able to do my hair curly or straight and have thrown away mousse...hopefully for good!
