This is my favorite music venue in town. The lineup they get is fantastic (if you like folksy, rockabillie type music)- you can just show up any night and likely be pleased. It isn't pretentious like some venues, smoking is prohibited on the music side of the room, and corn stalks hang from the ceiling. Hank Williams Wednesdays are a hoot--covering tunes and offering a two step dance venue. You can catch dinner in Ballard (La Carta, Madame K's) and make a night of it.

Sambar is in lower Phinney Ridge or East Ballard depending on your perspective. In any event, it's a terrific bar and definitely worth a sidetrip. It's really, really small and generally full (but not crowded) so be advised. They serve fantastic cocktails (always ask for the specials - I had a refreshing aloe/lime cocktail the last time I went and I loved it) as well as high end bar food. It's adjacent to Le Gourmand and they share the same kitchen so the menu's limited but the food is really good. Check it out.

The Jolly Roger Taproom is located at the north end of the Ballard bridge. It's worth going out of your way to try the mini burgers, or Lil Jollys as they call them. For a little more than $3 you get three miniature burgers along with a choice of several tasty dipping sauces. If you go for the version with cheese and grilled onions they are about $5. I would almost go so far as to say they are the best burger in Seattle.
The Jolly Roger also has fantastic onion rings and good beer.

I went to Tost when it first opened and it quickly became my favorite bar. The bartender at the time was incredibly entertaining and I felt like I belonged (like Cheers only no one yelled my name when I went in and I usually was one of five people). Once I stopped drinking I stopped going to Tost...and there was a band that I didn't care for either. Then my bartender left.
But the fact that it was hip to not smoke before the whole law thing was great too.
And don't forget their great food. I might even go back just for that.
Way better than the Ballroom...but they aren't even in the same league...

This place has it all...great beer, booze if you want it, a wonderful bar menu, and Steve the owner is a gem! Let's see....what haven't we tried...the appetizer wings are fabulous - watch out, wingdome! My personal favorite is the Reuben. We first went to Bad Albert's around 6-7 years ago, when an article appeared in the Times claiming they made the best Reuben in town. They do! It comes with great fries, or you can substitute a yummy ceasar. The cobb salad is very good, the fish & chips, the back street burger. On Fridays, Steve has an incredible special -- prime rib!! Get there early, cuz when it's gone, it's gone baby! And, this guy is so hip, he even pours our current favorite beer - Manny's! They also do breakfast on the weekends -- not a bad hollandaise!

This place can be called one of my favorite spots.
Their shrimp was spot on and to die for! We enjoyed their drinks and people watched from their outdoor seating area. It has a cafe/bar feel but their cuisine is very sophisticated and delicious.
Can't sing their praises enough.

The Dubliner is an absolutely fantastic pub. Live music on the weekends, the Jameson is cheap and the pours are stiff.
The crowd is mainly regulars during the week with a decent singles scene on the weekends which some of us appreciate. Fridays and Saturdays also feature great live bands and dancing if that's your bag.
I love a great game of pool and the 50c table is active and the regulars can shoot so bring your A-game.
If you stop in, look for me (minus afro) around the pool table.
Cheers,
Rahul
PS: They have food too...
