Yes, the martinis are sublime and a steal at $5 each (5-8pm). But once this place crowds up (and it does, fast), the service slows to a crawl and drink prices go up into the "not worth it" range. I've only tried the appetizers as far as food and they're meh- small portions, the burger's dry, the pizza is boring. The atmosphere is great, however, and if you're planning to go on a weeknight around 6pm, I predict you'll have a good experience. Don't leave without trying the "pink martini". If you want a packed mess of people and an impossible to reach bar, go on a Saturday night. So, I'll give my rating for the Happy Hour, but know it's only "two-stars" from me the rest of the time.

The Chapel on Melrose is all about the environment. Because you see, it's a bar right, but it's in a church...or what looks like a small place of worship, which either appeals to our sense of eccentricity or our lack of morality. Either way, it's a cool place to have a drink. I say "a" drink on purpose, because once happy hour ends, drink and food prices are not especially affordable. The prices suddenly remind you that Seattle is a real city and your paying real city prices. Definitely check out The Chapel for a cool new experience, especially if you can take a walk up to the private balcony, but otherwise, take a quick walk through and check off "Went To Church" from the list of things you've been meaning to do.

The Martini list on the front is amazing. I can't wait to hit Happy Hour to try many of the amazing sounding items on the list. Set in an old chapel, the stained glass windows and high ceilings create an enticing atmosphere. My only complaint is the service seemed very slow, the bartenders were too busy flirting to make drinks. It was packed on Saturday night, but I have heard it is not so busy on the weeknights.

My advice: do not go there on a Saturday night. Also, do not go there if you don't want to pay 7 dollars for a well drink. I will say this: the bar itself is aesthetically pleasing. I am a little surprised at the stairway to heaven one must ascend to get in the door, though. We're talking many, many steps on a 90 degree angle. I imagine many a drunken tart in stiletto heels has taken a nasty spill down those steps, which, on second thought, would be kind of funny. Other than that, the place is well-decorated (okay, besides the white Jetson's chairs, which managed to be both ugly *and* uncomfortable at the same time) and the bar staff is attractive and only slightly rude. I wish I could say the same for the clientele, which consisted almost solely of (badly) aging hipsters, overweight office women and fat frat guys with their skinny arm-girlfriends--you know, the kind who spends the entire night clinging to the fleshy elbow of her boyfriend and looking down at the floor? I'm like, I don't need geishas in here, okay? Go cover your mouth and giggle somewhere else and take your borderline abusive linebacker with you. Also, my 7 dollar drink was totally watered down. Oh, and they served beer in wine glasses. Why would thay do that?

The chapel is a bar in an old funeral home chapel - many of the original features remain, giving it a certain depth and character. The area upstairs is a calm area to just sit and people watch. The bouncer is funny, the staff nice, and the drinks are great! Definitely try the pear martini.

Chapel is great. The atmosphere is awesome as well as the decor. It's a renovated funeral home, and you get some of the 'chapel' feel while you're there, but the decor is very sophisticated, dark, lots of ambience. The prices are typical, not too expensive, the service was excellent. Our waiter even found us when we changed locations. It's a great spot to sit with some friends before going out to dance. The balcony upstairs has some particularly comfy seats. There's a nice mix of people, from the capitol hill crowd, to suits and ties. I highly recommend going!
