I really did feel like a king here. I was pampered (but like a guy) from the moment I walked in. It has just the right level things I look for to make me feel relaxed. It's not spa quiet, but it's not loud and distracting. The staff is helpful, polite, and nice, but without being over the top and not sincere. I am also excite because I here they will be adding even more services to their arsenal soon.

IMHO, the best haircut a man can get in seattle. i have been recommending it to friends, family and boyfriends for years, and everyone has said it is the best cut they have ever received.
what they are especially good at is those little things other barbers never seem to fix; my boyfriend complained that there was one area of his head where the hair always ended up being longer and sticking out in an annoying way. the first time he got his hair cut at valentine's, valentine explained why this was (something about the shape of his head) and then went on to make adjustments to the cut so that the hair wasn't longer there.
the space is really nice and comfortable and they offer you coffee as soon as you get in. parking can be difficult sometimes, but is way better than capitol hill or downtown. (and whoever thinks Greenwood is a "violent area" is crazy and sounds like they have a personal bone to pick.)
oh yeah, another thing most men don't get to experience but all love when they do, is the scalp massage (and don't worry, it is a girl that does it!) places like gene juarez charge twice as much for stylists who are not as well trained (especially in men's hair). i highly recommend you give it a try.

I have gone to more glamorous places and been devastated by the results--and price! Supercuts (Ballard) is consistently good, and the rates are flexible. I can choose a quick blow dry or a complete styling depending on the season or how much I want to pay.
I have had six or seven different people cut my hair and found them all to be very kind, friendly, and efficient. Best of all, one can get a basic haircut for only $13.00--which is why it is also my husband's favorite haircut.

I was about to give up on Supercuts until I came across Robert Shaffer at the University Ave location. It wasn't just that the haircuts I got were bad (they were), but they were always bad in a different way, so you couldn't even give specific instructions to try to correct for the problem. Anyway, Robert may not inspire confidence at first glance - he's pretty much bald himself - but he's a consummate professional - great results every time, plus he's a genuinely nice guy. If you want a great haircut and you live in north seattle, this is the place to go.

... and it'll do a better job. Maybe they've changed over the years, but I stopped going long ago when I came out way more than $13 poorer; I looked like some 80's chop shop hair band revivalist. Go somewhere else at all costs!

I have been patronizing Spin's since my barber left Rudy's to join Spin and his crew in 1999. Spin has a great crew of skilled barbers (four including himself). When my barber called Seattle quits and moved to LA in 2003, I started seeing Jordan. Since then I have only missed one cut with Jordan, and that was an emergency bad hair cut I got while on a business trip in Canada.
Jordan does a fantastic job on my hair (short and straight), but I have seen all different hair types in his chair. He has the most amazing collection of comics and toys on display. He also has a nice display of mullet paraphernalia, but I am not sure that he will actually give someone a mullet.
The atmosphere is very relaxed. Some vintage barbershop seating, local alternative art on the walls, and a huge selection of magazines that seems unnecessary since I have never had to wait more than five minutes past my appointment time.
Women, don't be scared by the term "Barber Shop." I would bet half Spin's clients are women.

The hours are amazing at this place! 12Am till 9pm. Yeah.. midnight until 9pm... meaning they shut down between 9pm and midnight. Crazy, eh?
Even though they call it the "hip hop barbershop" (because of the hip artwork and the music) they cut all kinds of hair, black people, white people, asian people. As a black guy, I hate going to new barbers because they always screw up my hair. The guy I went to was incredible... did a perfect job, I was amazed.
Price was right too.. i think it was less than $20...

Oh, call for an appointment so you don't have to wait, and make sure you ask for a particular barber. If you don't know one, ask when you call and get to know one over the phone so you don't have to wait.
One problem: I called several times during business hours to make an appointment and no one ever picked up except on the 4th attempt. I even left a message but no one called me back to confirm my appointment time even though the message said they would.

i used to go to $$ places to get my hair cut; believing that only professional stylists could give me a good cut......and then i foudn rudy's; a chain of walk in shops around seattle that hires good folk, has edge and is cheap (less than $20 for a h/c; under $10 if all you want is a strait buzz cut).
