To all of us who loved Barnabys Restaurant in Tukwila it was a sad day indeed on Monday, Feb 2 when they were forced to close their doors forever. Due to the weather in December and slower than expected sales in January along with our horrid economic situation in this country they just weren't able to sustain their business any longer. After over 30 years of serving the best Prime Rib in town they are just a fond memory now......May all who lost their jobs find work soon and may all the customers who loved this place find another place they can be as well treated as they were at Barnabys......
Pros: Best Beef Around
Cons: Business Closed

Tisk Tisk Mr. Coulson, you really brush up on your steak preparation definitions! When I read your review, I felt as if you had some merit, that you knew what you were talking about. So, I gave you the benefit of the doubt, until I looked up the definition of 'blue rare'. To my surprise (not really, seeing as BLUE could be associated with the word COOL/COLD) this is what I discovered:
Blue rare or very rare - (37.8?C/100?F core temp) Cooked very quickly; the outside is seared, but the inside is usually cool and barely cooked. The steak will be red on the inside and barely warmed. In the United States this is also sometimes referred to as 'Black and Blue' or 'Pittsburgh Rare'.
Rare - (48.9?C/120?F core temp) The outside is gray-brown, and the middle of the steak is red and slightly warm.
Medium rare - (52.2?C/126?F degrees core temp) The steak will have a fully red, warm center. Unless specified otherwise, upscale steakhouses will generally cook to at least this level.
Seems to me that the way your ORDERED your steak is EXACTLY what you got, perhaps if you wanted a WARM center you should have chosen MEDIUM RARE.
I've visited Barnaby's several times over the years and my service has yet to be sub-par. The management has stopped by on multiple occasions to check in on our dinner & to make sure that everything was wonderful. The food has always been cooked to perfection, the salad bar is one of the best that I have seen in the area. This restaurant has been around for over 30 years, apparently they have been doing something right!
I have yet to see this so called "party in the lobby" amongst the wait staff. I have however, seen an occasional conversation between co-workers. If that is what you consider a party, then shame on you Mr. Coulson. It seems to me that you're trying to find anything and everything to complain about!
The only condescending clown here, appears to only be you...
Pros: service, food,
Cons: more carrots!

Just a short note to kmeth to say thanks for proving what I already knew....I was perfectly right in sending my steak back twice. If you'd take a moment to read the description of a blue rare steak that you culled from Wikipedia, it states that the core temperature should be about 100 degrees. Seems a pretty apt description of warm to me (unless you're one of these people that wear a coat when the thermometer tops 100, claiming that they're still cold). It's certainly a far cry from the stone cold effort this restaurant tried to serve me (I'd estimate it wasn't even close to 50 degrees).
Since this debacle at Barnaby's I've discussed the matter with about half a dozen chefs in restaurants I frequent and to a man they were all amazed that anyone would consider a cold steak acceptable. They were even more appalled that the staff would be rude enough to infer that the customer didn't know what he was talking about when he pointed out the mistake. One thing is for certain, the problem didn't arise from the way I placed the order. Why should I have to specify that my blue rare steak should be slightly warm in the middle when I've never had a problem receiving it that way at any other restaurant? By definition it should automatically be served as such.
As for the claim that I was searching for things to complain about, nothing could be further from the truth. There was more than enough wrong that night that I didn't have to search...first and foremost being the attitude of the staff when faced with a legitimate complaint. The customer may not always be right, but in this case he most certainly was. Maybe I frequented the place on a bad night, but nothing changes the fact that my meal was horrid and that the staff's handling of the matter was totally wrong.
To readers of this site, please accept my apologies. I know this isn't the forum for a debate, but I will not be told I'm wrong when it's more than obvious I'm not.
Pros: Salad bar wasn't too bad
Cons: Food and attitude of staff.

Im not sure what this guy is talking about when he says cold rib?? We go to Barnaby's all the time when in town. My wife and I travel alot and we can tell you for a fact that the Prime Rib at Barnaby's is the best we ever have had. It's never cold and always hot, tender and juicy. The service is always great. The uniforms are a little old fashion but you cant judge a restaurant just by the uniforms unless you just cant find anything else to complain about. The food prices are reasonable and the quality of food is excellent.
Pros: Great Food and Service
Cons: None

Barnabys tries too hard to keep up with the world around it. The owners only care about making money and this is obvious when your plate is served. I believe at one time this was a great family restaurant. But unless you are going for a quick lunch or a beer, I wouldn't recommend it. The steaks are good, high quality beef, but they are just way too over priced. The service will always be good, they try to compensate with that for the food and prices. The rating here with five stars probable came from an owner.
Pros: prime beef
Cons: price, decorations, serving size

to the owner of Barnaby's, have some mercy and get your staff some updated uniforms! a group of us went there this week and out of five dinners three of them were cold. everything was below average and for the quality of food we recieved it was WAAAY over priced. the salad bar is retro and wilted with bland dressings. the ice cream was frozen in little cups and crystallized. but on a positive note the creme brulee was o.k. the service was fantastic though.
Pros: service
Cons: food

My wife and I have been hearing alot of great things about Barnaby's from friends of ours, so we decided to give Barnaby's a try and wow were they right. I have had steaks at alot of other steak houses in seattle and for the price and atmosphere Barnaby's is by far the best. Our server Claudia was great and made our dinner experience a great one. We would highly recommend Barnaby's to any one who is looking for a cozy place to have a great Steak.
Pros: Great atomasphere

Tired old school, think 70s steakhouse. If you are in the mood for nostalgia go for the salad bar. The food average or a litle below. Bland food, slow service. If I was starving, and they were givng away the food I would consider going back, otherwise there is nothing that would make me want to try this place agian.
Pros: I'm sure I will think of something eventually, oh yes, I didn't die from the experience
Cons: everything else.
