These are the best. I get the cinnamon and usually pick up an extra dozen or two for friends.

This is a must-try! Like the previous reviewer, I wish we had these folks do our wedding. Not only are the cakes incredibly beautiful, but they actually taste great too! They made a beautiful birthday cake for us and have lots of great ideas for any occassion, not just weddings. Prices are very reasonable for the incredible work they do. Well worth the trip to Renton and I understand that they can deliver as well.

A city this size allows/forces one to construct one’s own categories of particular food/beverage experiences, and there are enough solid coffees/coffeeshops/cafes that you can micromanage exactly the outcome you want. You trade down two percentiles in one category to trade up in another. Here, the categories you trade down in include (a) quality (maybe five percentiles below the best); (b) depending on the time of day, seat availability—as a function of being very, very friendly; and (c) quiet—also as a function of friendliness. You generally trade up in comfort/friendliness and value. Depending on your perspective, you trade either up or down vis-à-vis the number of noisy young children and study groups of various sorts. Miscellany: overhead music and art available for purchase vary by location/barista; they roast their own and blend a zodiacal series (if I remember correctly, their prior roaster was Batdorf & Bronson, makers of my favorite Harrar); while unobtrusive, their vibe is much more collegiate post-hippyness than urban hip.

The best time to eat them is just after they've floated down the river of hot oil from which they seem to be spawned. If you ask, they might tell you when the fresh ones will emerge, and perhaps give you a sample while it is still warm. (It's kind of like being a seal when they're thowing fish at the aqarium.) Their coffee is amazingly good as well. I thought that I didn't like doughnuts that much and 'unfortunately' they have many varieties. They tend to become more 'ordinary' as they cool, but I've heard that they revert to their original greatness in the microwave.

And yet it is...
This tiny little store is packed with more cookie cutters than I have ever seen! It is a theme party lovers dream! They have every imaginable cookie cutter that you could ever want and the prices are very reasonable.
I raced in there 1 minutes before closing the night before my son's firetruck birthday party looking for a firetruck cookie cutter. The extremely helpful owner was just closing up when I arrived & yet she opened the store back up for me and took the time to help me find what I was looking for and only ended up making $1. She was ALL about customer service and making customers for life - well, I sure am one now!

Really great baristas and great tasting coffee...but I love coming here just to check out the view of trains, buses, people, and architecture. It reminds me of those Richard Scary children's books where there's a million things going on at the same time. There's a great big window facing the South where you can sit for hours and watch the goings on of urban life. I love it when a train comes along entering into the tunnel.

Top Pot is what I was waiting for, while it seemed like the whole universe was doing backflips for the sweet lard-balls that Krispy Kreme sells. These are homemade donuts with substance, sold in an appealing coffee house setting with wi-fi and some outdoor tables under leafy trees as well. Check out the Valley Girl lemon-filled ones; they sell out quickly, so you might have to go early in the day. You'll never eat another Krispy Kreme again.

Drop that silly Atkins diet right now, and go to the Tall Grass Bakery. Follow your nose in and you will find a team of hard-working, dedicated bakers pummelling and mixing dough. Though everything is terrific and organic, I have imprinted on the crispy-tender plain baguette. If you time it right, you can buy a warm one (I think they come out at 3 and 6 pm.) See if you can get home with the loaf intact.

Are you a coffee lover like me? Well then you've probably heard of Starbucks! If not, your missing out BIG TIME! That company is doing so well that there is almost one Starbucks every half mile or so. I would like to recommend 2 items. First, the Carmel Frappichino, its carmel flavored with whip cream and its a good cold drink for a hot sunny day. Second, there is the Cafe Mocha, which I prefer during the winter time when it is cold because it is a very hot drink. A tall mocha will be about $2.65 with tax, and I believe the carmel frappichino is around $3.00. Try it out!

A lot of the bubble tea places on the Ave. are very...bright. Shinka feels more like a Japanese sanctuary than a pop-culture enclave. The food, unfortunately, is pre-packaged, so don't go hungry. Still, it's a great place to sit and read the paper with a pot of tea.
