Panama Hotel is a beautiful, serene tea house in the historic International District. Like many buildings in the area, it was Japanese-owned before World War II, but after the internment, it was bought again by a Japanese owner. She turned it into a tea-house and museum, that today serves as sort of a community center / historical marker / coffee shop. If you're just looking for a great latte or some fresh tea, it's a perfect spot: quiet, beautiful, and tasteful, it's a great alternative to Starbucks. If you want a little more though, take a second look. You'll find a window in the floor reflecting down onto some old dusty trunks, left there by Japanese inhabitants when they left for camps and never returned. You'll see pictures on the walls of the businesses and architecture of the area throughout the past century; and you'll discover downstairs one of two remaining Japanese bathhouses in the country. And they have the coolest bathrooms arond.
Once or twice I've found their tea to be over-steeped. Other than that, there's really not much to complain about.

This is the freestanding store located in the Seattle International District. I wanted to see how the prices and variety differ from the store located in the Uwajimaya location.
When I was there, the variety was impressive. Of course, the prices were extremely affordable. I had their Mango pudding....absolutely fantastic!!! They even added some freshly made whipped topping for me and made it look extra pretty. This is the best pudding I have ever tasted! I just loved the chunks of fresh mango in it. And, it was not super sweet like American version pudding.
The atmosphere was well lit, clean, and welcoming. Service was knowledgeable about their products and loved sharing their passion for the business with customers. They were a joy to talk with.

The fudge brownies here are heavenly...they are big, and you can't finish the whole thing at once because they are so rich! I had a custom cake made there too, and it was wonderful because the frosting wasn't sickeningly sweet---it was well-balanced with the cake and the berry filling (which actually tasted like berries, rather than sugar like cakes you get at the grocery store).
Be sure to read the sign outside for the special of the day---it's always a great offer!

If you've seen this "egg twist bread" in mainstream grocery stores, or you're hip to the ways of the Jew, you know that challah is a wonder-bread...(no, not Wonderbread....)
Enter Zatz.
I've eat challah all over the world, for the past 28 years. And this place takes the cake. (Don't tell my mom!) While homemade challah is usually pretty good, this place makes the chewiest, softest, sweetest bread...and I could eat a whole loaf myself. But I don't. I share. Because everyone should know this sort of goodness before they die.

A friend of mine had told me of this place, so I went last Thursday to check it out. WOW! I splurged and bought some treats to bring back to work, considering the prices are so affordable, the "splurge" only cost me $13 and that included lunch. Check it out, worth the drive there. Nothing else like in the city, that I have found yet. Service was kinda of slow...but hey, you cant have everything!

I couldn't resist this storefront while browsing 6th Avenue. Inside, display cases were full of goodies and it was hard to decide what to get. Everything looked so good. Their BBQ Pork buns are fantastic!
Service was very helpful and patient. They even helped teach me about red bean cakes. Cool.
Prices are excellent. Quality and taste are superb.

Cute little coffee shop located in Wes Seattle, this place serves a variety of bubble tea drinks, tons of flavors to choose from. I like going there and getting a cup of coffee or bubble tea and bringing my laptop in because they offer free wireless interet access with a purchase of something from their menu. The owners are very nice people. They also have a wonderful setting of art that changes every month. Its pretty cool.
