I ordered their Apricot Bliss Cake (two layers of maple and one layer of chocolate in the middle) for my baby's first bday party. I had no medical - related reason to go for a vegan, wheat free, gluten free cake, but wanted to go with something other than a traditional grocery store cake. I thought the cake was excellent and so did my mom who is a phenomenal baker. The cake got mixed reviews at the party and unfortunately lots of it got thrown away. My goal was to introduce a cake, with healthier ingredients as well as open people's horizons a bit. Unfortunately, we are so used to seeing cakes from Costco or QFC during birthday parties that it is what people expect to see and taste. I will however keep raving about this bakery and will keep ordering their baked goods.

Due to the urging of two friends, I recently signed up for a pre-natal yoga class at Eight Limbs with the famous Anne Phyfe. The class itself is excellent- just strenuous enough with great stretching, learning better breathing is key and awareness of the baby is always emphasized. Anne Phyfe is AMAZING-she sends a ripple of calm through all of her students with her voice and soft touch and excellent instruction. The studios are clean and airy and the overall vibe is just plain sweet.

Joe Bar is within walking distance from our house, so my husband and I like to walk up there for him to get a mocha. I'm not a coffee drinker, but he loves it.
They have tables and chairs outside and the people who work and hang out there are very friendly.

It's usually quiet in here when I come in for a beer and coffee with friends. Not sure why, although I hear it gets full for the live music at night. Coffee's good, so is the chai, and in my opinion, the beer selection here can't be rivaled by most bars in the area. Mr. Spot's has wine too, but I'm going to talk about the beer. They've got six, that's right SIX local beers on tap, and over 10 kinds in bottles. The baristas are always really nice too. And there's a reasonably priced (2.50 and up) menu if you need some sustenance. If you like to go out for beers and actually talk to the people you're with, you should check out Mr. Spot's.

Though Lisa Chick and others have abandoned this joint for Essential (Essentch as we often call it), it still rocks the party. The challah is great as well as all breads. Its packed for breakfast on weekends but worth the wait- very creative menue with all kinds of herbs mixed in and fresh breads/pizza crusts accenting all entrees. Lunch is great too. And how can you beat staring in the window while the bakers frost cakes and roll out dough! Essential could use some windows into their kitchen!

Here ye, here ye:
It may just be because the sun is out and I've had two iced lattes in the last hour and a half - but Cafe Ladro is a FANTASTIC coffee shop.
I know. Seattle has 3 friendly neighborhood coffee shops per square foot. But this might be one of my faves. Their staff is uber friendly in a non invasive way, but more importantly the coffee is delicious. This location is at the heart of Lower Queen Anne so the crowd is eclectic. Prices are average, wifi is free, but again...their coffee tastes really, really good.
I think I'm going to go get one more latte, let my enthusiasm go completely overboard, and call it a day.

Yunnie is the best bubYunnie is the best bubble tea cafe on the Ave. An impressive a-la-carte style menu allows you to craft your own, personal, bubble tea concoction. More
Up until two months ago, I lived in apartments next door to El Diablo on Queen Anne, and I would go there every morning to buy coffee on my way to work. The staff were polite and friendly, and seemed to know every customer who came in the door. It felt as if I had a special relationship with the staff. For example, I ordered a Mexican mocha on a regular basis, the chocolate/coffee/cinammon/spice beverage. In time, they figured out that I was in it for the kick, and offered me a cayenne mocha. It wasn't on the menu (they will give it to you if you ask) --- it tastes like a chocolate covered red hot. It was nice that they would think about what I would specifically like, and touches like that made me feel welcome.
El Diablo wasn't only a place to get that morning caffeine fix. If guests were visiting, I would take them over to brag about my neighborhood. The other reviews detail the heaven/hell combination, but my favorite part to show off was the cakes and tartes. El Diablo contracts through a number of bakers, and are quite discriminating over what they pick. I've seen interesting combinations, including a mojito lime tarte that was delicious. We'd get our orders and sit down on the comfortable couches and chat, and felt no pressure to leave.
In the evening, local musicians would perform, and the crowd seemed to enjoy the place. The coffeeshop serves meets multiple needs -- it is a community hangout. You don't just go there for the coffee (but if you did, I wouldn't fault you). You go there for the atmosphere.

More
Trabant Chai lounge on 45th is a nice escape from the Starbucks mania. The owners of Trabant pay attention to detail both in cup and atmosphere. The wide variety of chais along with Mexican Hot Chocolate and Yerba Mate keeps you coming back for more day after day. The atmosphere is often home to a few UW students seeking refuge during finals week, but the diverse Ave. gives the patrons of the lounge a great, intriguing atmosphere. The artwork, open mic night, open notebooks free to doodle and write in, and even the computers (free for patrons) gives this Chai Lounge a great, personal feeling. It will soon become your favorite caffeine-stop (see ya Starbucks!).
Also, "chai" means tea, so do not be an annoying newbie and ask for a "chai tea". It's redundant.

We have been ordering cakes from them for many, many years. If you don't live down in the south end it can be a bit of a drive but it is well worth it. Saturday's are quite busy so I always try o pick up cakes the day before. The market has many delicious treats to choose from and it is always an enjoyable experience going in here.
They have some really fun and unusual cakes to choose from and the price is pretty reasonable.
