I love the Three Girls Bakery and as I work around the corner from the market, I find my way here often for lunch. They make great sandwiches on their fresh baked bread or a bagel. Their soups are also tasty and feel SO good on a dreary Seattle day. The service at the walk-up counter is friendly and quick - I often end up taking a loaf of bread home too. The kalamata olive loaf is especially tasty.

I would rather take my chances in this postage stamp sized bakery http://www.tomdouglas.com/bakery/index.html than almost any other bakery in the area. The stunning and svelte servers behind the counter look like they don't really eat here enough, but don't be fooled: Tom Douglas http://www.tomdouglas.com/ is behind this operation and if is fame doesn't convince you that his food is great, he has his frame to back it up! You may already love their tarts, pies, cakes, cookies, rustic artisan breads, or the sandwiches, soups, salads et cetera, but if you "don't know yet" then I recommend starting with the famous triple coconut cream pie. Then you will know why none of the customers seem turned off by the lunch line.

LOVE it + it is Organic. The food and coffee is great - much better than Starbucks or Tully's. The Lake Union cafe has more ambiance - but the Madison cafe is conveniently located for me and I go there all the time.

This is the best possible retreat from the kind of morning at home where no one can find the permission slip for today's field trip and the printer runs out of ink before the homework can get printed out. Grab a few dollars and escape out the door and go have a blessedly peaceful cup of coffee at a table where you can read today's paper and eat something buttery and fruity and just sweet enough, and be surrounded with an atmosphere of quiet simplicity. The women who run this place move back and forth smoothly between the baking area and the front counter, and the food couldn't be fresher.

They don’t just give away free bread (with butter); they give away GOOD bread. I found out about Great Harvest by going to the food bank just off Sandpoint Way, between two of their branches (the second being on Lake City Way, to the north); this bakery is a regular contributor of freshly baked loaves. I used their bread to make toast and sandwiches for the kids I babysat, and they couldn’t get enough.

If you’re tired of the Starbucks and Peet’s coffee chains, head to the Fremont Coffee House, just a couple of blocks west from Fremont Ave on 35th. This coffee spot has a great feel as it is built inside a regular family house with rooms and nooks that carve out semi private spots to read or work on your laptop. They offer pretty much everything that Starbucks does, plus have a great selection of rootbeers and tasty desserts (my favorite was the cardamom cake). There is also seating outside for when it’s nice.

If you need any type of fun cake - no matter what the occasion, then this is the place to go. I buy cakes for any and every occasion - my boyfriends birthday, bacehlorette parties, B-B-Q's or just for the fun. The cakes are a little on the pricy side, but the amusement value and delicious taste definitely make up for the price!!! They do custome orders as well as ready-to-go cakes - "if you can imagine it they can make it." They also sell individual cup cakes and other fun party accessories.

I echo the sentiments of the reviewers before me. The crumpets are delightful and a real treat anytime. The cozy little shop is a real gem in the PPM & I often take out-of-town guests here since it is so charming and their offerings are so tasty.
If you can snag a table out front, it's great for people-watching, too!

This is clearly the best coffee and service you'll get around the lake. No joke! And seeing as I just bought a house in West Seattle I'm going to have drive a long way for my coffee every day.
I've been a "regular" (I hope I'm cool enough to be considered that) for about 9 years. Crazy! Check it out when you have a chance.
