Irwin's bakery and coffee house offers a wonderful variety of good wholesome food and a nice cozy environment. They are tucked in the wonderful Wallingford neighborhood right on the bus route on 40th. If you sit outside on their garden patio the view of Lake Union and the surrounding neighborhood is nice and comforting, what a relaxing setting for some yummy soup, homemade pizza, or baked good. Their apple pie tastes just like my grandma's, delicious! The cook there likes to talk to the dough while she works it, she claims it responds in turn by becoming the goodness that it is.

Located in the middle of the U village, amongst other eateries. Pretty crowded place on a nice sunny day - typical wait time is about 10-15 min for the order to be ready. Got patio seating in the common outside area with other eateries, or the tables in the store are ample. Great choices of sandwiches and salads. The beverages are bit more expensive, a small Odwalla was $2.39. Free wifi and just a great place to chill and enjoy the sun. Lots of students and people with dogs. I personally like the BBQ Chicken sandwich or Fresh italian salad. All sandwiches and salads are fresh made to order, thus the time it takes.

Boulangerie Nantaise is unfortunately in a place where you could easily walk (or drive) by and not even notice it. However, you would be remiss not to try to find it. Perhaps it's being shown up by Macrina Bakery--which is only 3 blocks away. How lucky is Belltown to have 2 fabulous bakery in its midst!
I was reminded how much I like the bread because Salumi uses the baguettes from here in their sandwiches. Nice, crusty baguettes. Boulangerie Nantaise also has great croissants and other flaky pastries (try the feuillte--a cheesy, buttery pastry). These are not things you would find at Macrina. The sandwiches are also quite good.
(Some history--the bakery used to be called Biofournil but changed its name about a year ago.)

I am addicted to this place.
The breads are fantastic - try the Honeywheat for your everyday sandwiches. The fruit muffins and kolaches and fluffy and fresh. Chocolate chip walnut cookies are sinful. HUMONGOUS cinnamon rolls. And they're all made with whole grains, or whole wheat, so you can feel slightly better about eating them... I just made a pizza using their fresh spelt pizza dough that was fantastic! Their in-house sandwiches are okay. Not very big. But hard to make a bad sandwich with fresh bread.
And they give out free samples of their Bread of the Day. They do have breads based on Weight Watchers points, but leave your Atkins Diet at the door.

I have visited Remo's for the occasional birthday cake but recently I needed a pie and was looking for something different. After looking at various pies at Safeway and a few other stores I was not thrilled with the selection, appearance and quality. Although the prices seemed fair at $5.99 ($4.99 with your club card) I remembered Remo's and rushed over before they closed at 6pm. Reviewing their selection I found both a chocolate mousse pie and coconut cream pie that met my needs. At a price of just $3.69 I was thrilled!
Their selection is good and everything is baked fresh daily. The staff is pleasant and the prices are worth checking out the next time you need baked goods.
In the event you cannot find what you are looking for just ask them. They have gone out of the way for me to fulfill a special order when I could not find what I was looking for.

I can't remember when or how exactly I stumbled into Bella Dolce, but I am supremely delighted to have discovered it. Situated in a tiny little storefront in Madison Valley, dwarfed by local giant Essential Baking Co. almost next door, it's easy to pass by.
I've been there a few times, and I'm eager to go back and try more of their luscious buttery pastries and fine espresso. They're only about three tables in the cozy but cramped storefront, and you can see right into the little back kitchen where the staff (always attractive young women, but maybe I just have a weakness for women in smocks and covered with flour) studiously works away.
The offerings are limited and delicious: usually a couple of scones, a gallette or other daily pastry, some apple cinnamon rolls, a few muffins and sweetbreads, and some cakes or cupcakes (which I've yet to try) and cookies. Thumbs up for the fact that they almost always have a few things on sample. There are also a few savory items for lunch: usually a frittata, a salad and soup of the day, something unique like crab cakes, and a few other offerings.
Bella dolce is one of the few places in town where I'll actually buy a scone. It seems that your average scone in Seattle would make a more suitable projectile weapon (nearly the size of a brick, overly dense and dry). These are welcome departure: no bigger than your palm, light, moist, slightly sweet and a flaky/crisp top. My sister is a big fan of their apple cinnamon rolls: full of yeasty and appley goodness without being overly sweet.
So next time you're down in Madison Valley, pass up the din and crowd of Essential Baking Company and try the local, little sister bakery nearly next-door: Bella Dolce.

This bakery is a labor of love by a couple who used to work for Boeing. Decided to chuck it all and do what they really like. Which is to get up at 4AM in the morning and bake.
The bakery is just great and as a neighborhood place it is more than friendly. For instance, last time we were there, they gave the kids some donuts.
There are probably finer (e.g., sweeter, more fattening treats), but there is just something about their neighborhood place that is friendly and inviting.

More
I was a fan of Honey Bear Bakery back when it was in Greenlake so I was happy to hear there was one in my local LFP Town Center. It is right next to the popular Third Place Books.
Honey Bear has delicious homemade baked good and meals. Everything is fresh and you can always find a whole wheat muffin or vegan something. Now, I'm not one to try a vegan muffin, but I appreciate the option. For some reason my butter croissant seems healthier when it shares a case health-conscious options. I love to walk up on the weekend and have a cappuccino and treat. Now beware, the barrista is always backed up so the coffee takes forever, but it is good and worth the wait. Just don't drop by if you are in a hurry.
The real find is their cakes. They make delicious wonderful cakes made however you like. They can be a bit pricey, but are 10 times better than a sheet cake from the grocery store. I ordered a strawberry cake (round white cake layered with cream cheese frosting and fresh strawberries) for a baby shower. I think it was $35 or $45, but easily served 16 and was so good. It looked and tasted homemade. I really should have said I made it. If you want to order a cake, keep it mind just should do it a week or more in advance. They are so good, you really should try it for your next special occasion.

This is a nice little espresso place on NE 65th St. just East of I-5. A bit bigger than the typical drive-through espresso shack, you can either pull up to the drive-through window or walk inside. Some baked good also available. Open in the evenings also.
