More
At the crossroads of Denny Way and Olive Way, Coffee Messiah rewards regulars and first timers with espresso, juice and food in an eclectic, friendly little spot. A neon cross accompanied by the declaration: "Coffee Saves!" adorns the front window at Coffee Messiah so please don't forget your sense of humor. The interior offers more of the same outsider décor.
The coffee drinks are strong and the food, from dessert to a small breakfast and lunch menu, is mostly vegan (no animal products). But the amiable staff will guide you through the choices, make recommendations and even strike up a conversation beyond the usual pleasantries.
Feeling brave? Scan the events calendar at Coffee Messiah and come back in the evening for live music, poetry readings and cabaret performances. Not so brave? Then at least drop a quarter into the Disco Restroom.

First, the food: excellent, authentic, fresh-from-the-oven NY style bagels. Well-designed, satisfying sandwiches which always exceed my expectations. Killer deals on breakfast combos, where you get some sort of egg-bagel arrangement and coffee for a very low price. This place opens at some ungodly hour of the morning (6 or 6:30) and if you have to get an early start on a long morning, there's no better place to grab a hot bagel sandwich for road food. They also have a sunny, open dining area which is popular with the local lunch crowd, and they carry the usual required side stuff: a cooler of juices, a rack of chip bags, big cookies, and so on. They also sell their own blends of (pricy) flavored cream cheeses.
The staff is young and sweet, but always a little foggy. Maybe it's the early mornings. The line can be 5 deep, and there'll be 4 people behind the counter, and everything still moves at an unperturbed crawl. Order an espresso drink and it's like putting glue in the gears. And you may get the wrong change, but they'll be really nice about fixing it when you point it out.
It's worth it for the great food -- just don't be in a flaming hurry, and you'll be glad you came.

At a glance Gingko Tea is like other bubble tea places on the Ave, but I think this place has a leg up since it caters to our various needs and also has some interesting selections, while not making everything from powder. They also have good choices of "add-ons".
IMHO, bubble tea can be a horrid sugary experience if you go to a place where they make everything from powder. This place seems to have many good milk teas, shaken teas, and other bubble teas that are not made from powder. (My favorite is longan, which comes with some longan jelly bits in it, with added tapioka.) They also have nice different options like lavender milk tea (not always on the menu, but very good) or rose milk tea.
They also serve all the standard coffee/espresso drinks, regular tea (good Chinese teas) and some fruit smoothies. The shop is spacious and have a relaxed feel, equipped with board games. They also have some Chinese munchies. While it's not as quaint as some (e.g. Shinka - which is more Japanese), this place is a good choice for stopping by to relax with a drink when you want something different for everyone.

I found this place by accident. Since I live on the Hill and work in South Seattle, I'm never downtown. But yesterday I had an appt. near Pioneer Square and when I had to go back today, I already knew what I wanted.
Yesterday I tried the Morning Glory Muffin (lots of yummy fruit and diced carrot) with a frizzy blackberry juice drink. Not too sweet or syrupy.
Today I had the Breakfast Bolo- egg and bacon on a grilled croissant with an iced chai. The sandwich was a little large for one meal and the croissant was a bit crispier than I like (next time I won't get it grilled), but with jam and relish on the side, it was tasty.
Great singles seating at small tables and a bar inside, and big windows looking onto Pioneer Square but there are bigger tables in the brick atrium if you are with a group.

Cafe SolMar is a good place to have your morning coffee and bagel or pick up a sandwich for lunch. It's located in Ballard on 17th, right between the post office and the 7-11 on Market Street. They serve really good coffee - their signs say it's Kona coffee, but I'm not sure if that includes the espresso and you can get your bagel with plain or salmon cream cheese. They have free wifi and lots of outlets. Best of all, they are not very busy so you can get a lot done here.

Located on the north Ave, in the U-District, The Blue Dog Cafe opened a year ago and is still doing well- though word hasn't spread much the regulars are loyal. The staff at the cafe is friendly and casual, there is usually mellow french music playing or folk radio. The decor is like grandmas house- if grandma was cool and liked color. They offer a selection of coffee drinks, thai iced tea, sandwiches and salads as well as homemade pastries that are amazing. I especially recommend the chai pound cake. This is one of my favorite places to study or bring a date for coffee and evening light.

C & P Coffee is a nice place where I like to drink coffee in West Seattle. It's a really cozy place, and they even have a fireplace, and they put paintings by different artists on the walls. They also put on good live music shows sometimes, usually on the weekends.
