This lovely gelateria is a unique find in Seattle because it truly does evoke the experience of being in another place. We stopped by this weekend after some hat shopping at the nearby B. Utz shop and savored 4 flavors (not huge portions, thankfully) and a cappucino. Our choices consisted of coconut, pistachio, stracciatello, and caffe'.
When I travel to Italy I sample gelato in as many flavors as is possible and this shop will help me seek out this same desire for gelato but closer to home. I will definitely visit this shop again (I can't believe it took me this long to go there) - and I think I like it even over the long-standing Il Procopio just west of the Pike Place Market (off Western Ave).

The owner is from Venice & her shop definitely is as authentic as you can get. The flavors vary slightly & the last time I was there they had a delightful pumpkin gelato. You must try it ... very interesting mix of flavors. Reminiscent of pumpkin pie, but better! They also make the riso (rice) gelato, which is reminiscent of rice pudding. Free samples are available.
Both the gelato and the pastries are delicious. I recently took a friend from Italy here & she was very impressed. Also, their sidewalk tables are a great place to sit, enjoy your gelato, and people watch.

This is some of the best gelato this side of Roma...right here in Seattle. The single downtown location makes it a bit inconvenient for anyone who doesn't find themselves in the area, BUT Pagliacci pizza offers pints for delivery on their menu. We always order a pint or two whenever we have pizza and so stay well-stocked without having to make a trip!

If you like gelato and find yourself downtown, try Gelatiamo. It is located at 3rd/Union. They have a lovely selection of tasty gelato and other pastries. The real winner in my book--the gelato ice cream cake--an extravagant treat for someone you love. I recently had the raspberry gelato ice cream cake and practically melted away in ecstasy. The gelato is authentic and superb! The place can get crowded and, as you might expect, it isn't cheap. That said, spoil yourself if you are having a bad day at work or find yourself attending a play or event downtown. You are worth it.

Gelatiamo is an ice cream stand downtown, and, quite simply, serves the best ice cream in Seattle. Other places such as ColdStone or the Mix will take some decent ice cream and mix it up with whatever you want in front of your face, and that is quite good. However, Gelatiamo will have none of that - this place is all about pure ice cream, and as far as unadorned ice cream goes, this is as good as it gets. Try the rice or coconut flavor. They sound odd, but oh man, they are *good*.

If you've never heard of gelato, then you are missing out. Gelato is an Italian verion of ice cream, only better (in my opinion). Since no air is added to gelato like there is in ice cream, gelato tends to be more richer, less frozen, and creamier. Its just delicious and you've gotta try it if you never have before. Gelatiamo is a cute little spot in downtown Seattle that servces different flavors of it. I think they have the best stuff. They also serve lots of cute little pastries and drinks. Try them out and see what you think.
