I'd give it 4.5. They've got delicious and VERY freshly baked cookies (even at 5:45 pm, when they close at 6:00 pm!) The lady there is a bit snob... More

I'd send you to the Dahlia Bakery. It is part of the Tom Douglas restaurants where they make all of their desserts and pastries. You can get a variety of freshly baked goods like cookies, pastries, artisan breads and even homemade ice cream. The star of the show is the triple-coconut cream pie. I've heard more about this pie than any other dessert in Seattle. Some think it is over-rated, but it definitely has the wow-factor. It costs $29 for the 9-inch pie but that will serve 6-8 and definitely impress all of your guests. The bakery has its own website where you can check out the offerings : http://www.tomdouglas.com/dahlia-bakery/

I would rather take my chances in this postage stamp sized bakery http://www.tomdouglas.com/bakery/index.html than almost any other bakery in the area. The stunning and svelte servers behind the counter look like they don't really eat here enough, but don't be fooled: Tom Douglas http://www.tomdouglas.com/ is behind this operation and if is fame doesn't convince you that his food is great, he has his frame to back it up! You may already love their tarts, pies, cakes, cookies, rustic artisan breads, or the sandwiches, soups, salads et cetera, but if you "don't know yet" then I recommend starting with the famous triple coconut cream pie. Then you will know why none of the customers seem turned off by the lunch line.

The restaurant and the small bakery next door are both owned by the chef Tom Douglas. Everything from the soup to the bread to the cheesecakes is delicious. Enjoy a sandwich and soup for a quick lunch at the bakery or sit down for a long leisurely meal in the restaurant. Everything on the menu is delicious. The atmosphere is almost as great as the food, with a comfortable and interesting décor. Only downside, the bakery’s only seating are two small tables outside. It’s probably best to get lunch to go.

Dahlia Bakery is well known for their excellent baked goods (a coconut creme pie lasted less than 4 minutes in my office kitchen once), though I am a huge fan of their soups, particularly their tomato soup. A cup of soup and a fresh roll make for a wonderful quick lunch on the go. The staff are friendly, and work well with each other. Don't be daunted by long lines - it's a small space. They move through the line quickly, and will have you on your way in no time.

I have been to the Dahlia bakery several times and each time I am disappointed. The first two stops were in the early afternoon and the shelves were bare! The selection was so small I was very surprised. The third time I made it in early enough to get a Pain au Chocolat which looked fantastic with nuts sprinkled on the top. What a waste of calories! The chocolate was not spread evenly but rather clumped together and the croissant was really flavorless.

In my pre-low carb life, this was my all out, hands down favorite place to get a sweet treat. It's a Tom Douglas restaurant, so I need not say more, but I will anyway. They have cookies, muffins, pastries and breads as well as cakes and pies in their entirety or a single serving. You can shop in the bakery or call in your order and they do special holiday orders as well. Absolutely DELICIOUS! I believe they also serve sandwiches now too and although I haven't tried them, I can't imagine they're anything but tasty. YUM!
