Everytime I'm at Pike Place either by myself enjoying the market or with friends who are out of town, i must stop by this bakery and pick up a pastry and cup of coffee. The perfect way to stop in the midst of a busy day, sit, relax, enjoy good eats & treats and then be on my way again. The experience is even better if you bring a friend to share with :)

I spent an hour at Louisa's this morning enjoying a latte and catching up on my email on their free wifi. It''s a typical Seattle coffee joint - hip, mismatching tables, comfy seating, and hot black good coffee. I sat in the corner and was left alone, which is exactly what I wanted this morning.

More
I bike past Essential every day and smell that good bready scent wafting out. It's all I can do not to stop in every day for a brioche, a croissant, or just a loaf of their yummy bread. They take baking very seriously, and it shines through in their great breads (ranging from crusty baguettes to solid, tangy desem and sourdough to ciabatta), fantastic pastries and beautiful desserts. Good coffee and espresso, sandwiches and breakfast items such as oatmeal are also available. They're open in the evenings and serve beer as well.
The branch in Fremont/Wallingford has an airy brick-walled dining room with good music and newspapers on a rack. A good place to hole up for an hour while drinking coffee and eating a cinnamon roll.

Having traveled to Italy several times, I can tell you that Gelatiamo in Seattle knows how to make exceptional gelato. The best ever! Their baked goods are wonderful too. Plus gelato cakes! You kidding me, I have never seen that in Italy. Go Gelatiamo!
