Great consignment store, but not so great if you're claustrophobic as the items are jam packed all the way up the ceiling! But, this is great in terms of a wide selection of products. They have pregnancy-related items, clothes, and toys including new products making a nice mix of items to choose from. Also the location is great because if they don't have the item you want, you can likely find it new at nearby U-Village or The Right Start.
I bought a used few toys and clothing items for my baby, all were in great shape and very reasonably priced. The staff was also very knowledgeable about baby products and provide suggestions on other stores you might want to check out.

This store is under new ownership as of July 2008. Since Sarah took over I've heard a number of "wow's" from moms who have been experiencing this store for years. Increased selection, cleanliness and organization of the store and items which include equipment, clothing, and toys from maternity to size 16 boys and girls. Sarah supports local community services like West Side Baby with a continuous flow of clothing and equipment and the Pike Market Childcare & Preschool with a monthly dollar amount.

I finally discovered All for Kids when my youngest turned two. That was two years too late. I love the wise and friendly staff, and I do all my b-day present shopping there. And, who can argue with supporting an indie book seller? They have AWESOME suggestions if you aren't sure what to buy.

More
Hello Richard,
What do you consider "modern"? Are you looking for chrome and pleather or simply less ornamental lines to the furniture? Babys R Us has a bunch of stuff that isn't on the floor on their store. Likewise, many "bare wood" furniture shops have fewer "whoopdies" and fancy curly-cues, and you have the added bonus of being able to paint or stain it any color you like (most will do it for you for a small charge). You can also adapt "adult" furniture to baby's needs. Remember that crib bars should be narrow enough that you can't pass a soda can through them. Ties should be less than 4" long. Nothing flamable or "kooshie".

It is a huge benefit to expectant and new parents to be able to enter a store where they know the products are all high quality and not be overwhelmed by hundreds of strollers. Note that Birth and Beyond does not sell infant formula, which is an imporant reason to give them your business over the big box baby stores.

Good: Very helpful salesperson to answer all my questions, good selection of high-quality (and not always high-price) items. Convenient location.. Bad: The store is fairly small and doesn't have everything you might need..

Now, I know what you're thinking and it's not that. Bootyland is THE place to shop for those fabulously hip kids in your life. Whether it's vintage dresses from the '50's, '60's and '70's or it's a "vintage recycled" black slip dress, you'll find all you need for your mini-fashionistas! Bootyland supports our local designers (many of them mothers of young children themselves) by selling their wares. You'll find messenger bag-style diaper bags decked in funky flowers or spooky skulls. Baby slings in all colors and patterns for "wearing your baby" close to you. You'll find previously loved clothing in the back of the store that is reasonably priced and fashion-friendly as well. Bootyland is owned by Ellie Cassidy who has created a true community around her store. On any given day, you'll find Ellie's children playing happily with the children of customers, or the children of friends who stop by just to chat. She also employs young mothers who bring their babies to work with them. It's typical to see a young mother with her infant in a sling as she sorts clothing and rings up customer's purchases. Whether you're a first time mother, or a seasoned parent of multiple kidlets you'll love shopping here. Visit Bootyland for your baby shower, birthday and new baby gifts as well!!

Communique Toys located on the top of Queen Anne hill, is a spin off of Communique Cards and Gifts. They realized that their toys section needed to be larger and open the toy store just two doors down from their main store. Communique Toys is like a Queen Anne secret. All the locals know it's the place to go for that special toy for a birthday or holiday. They have such a variety and a wide range of prices to fit every toy shopper. That, plus free gift wrapping make Communique Toys a prize winning store.

More
The Creative Dance Center has two locations, one on Densmore Avenue (near the North Seattle Sam's Club on Aurora and 130th) and one in Phinney Ridge. They offer a variety of classes ranging from adult classes to kid's classes to baby and parent classes. My experience has been with the infant classes at the Densmore location. If you're looking for a small class size (at least in my experience), reasonable prices (less expensive than most comparable classes I've seen), and fun with baby, this is a great place to go. I have had a great experience with their 6 week infant massage class ($55) and their Nurturing Baby class. In the latter class, you do all manner of movement, songs, rhythms and rhymes with baby. It's a great workout for the parent too!
