I brought an older VW I was thinking of buying to Carl's for a pre-purchase inspection. The service was so great, and Carl was VERY helpful and kind. They even did some things like changing a lightbulb that was burned out and didn't charge me for it. The best part is that Carl explained everything to me in detail and didn't treat me like a Dumb Girl - which many mechanics tend toward. He gave me some solid advice and I'm sticking with him since buying the car. I highly recommend this place!

I took my car in to Carl's (actually towed my car in to Carl's) and found I needed a new alternator. He searched for the best deal on the part and charged very reasonably for the service. I called a day later to describe another nuisance (my e-brake light kept turning on and off for no good reason) and he was able to fix it simply, for practically nothing, at the same time. He kept me informed the entire time my car was in the shop and my car has been running great for the six months since! Highly recommended.

... about leaving your car. Carl's does all of my normal servicing (oil changes/lube) and any repairs that may come up. He and his team even found a very inventive way to fix a broken mounting bracket for the exhaust pipe. This free fix saved me the coupe hundred dollars it would have cost to replace this piece.
In the past I used the 1hr lube places and I was constantly plagued by incomplete jobs, some times costing me more in repairs down the road, and pushy sales men trying to up-sale me on services that didn't need to be done. At Carl's I know the job is fair and complete when I pick up the car.
In the past I was always suspicious when I would take my car into a shop and they found "extra" work. When Carl's calls to let me know about the repairs that need to be done, I don't think twice about giving them the OK.

Took our VW golf to University VW and then to Carl's. Both diagnosed the problems as (1) broken breather hose and pipe and (2) Throttel Adaptation at Limit.
Compare for yourself:
1. University VW - Recommended (1) replacing broken breather hose and pipe and (2) Replacement of Throttle Body. Total Cost: $931.00 (on top of $100.00 diagnostic cost)
2. Carl's - Recommended (1) replacing broken breather hose and pipe and (2) Adapting throttel body with scanner. Total Cost: $131.24
I took the car to Carl's and it is working fine. Saved myself $800.00. And Carl was much more pleasant to deal with.

I come from two generations of shop owners back east and feel totally at home with Carl's. Excellent, prompt service for a great price. Carl is articulate, personable and totally honest (I know that's a concern for a lot of people). Despite having had free car repair my whole life until moving here, I don't resent having to pay Carl's bills - he's that good.

I have been going to Carl's for 10 yrs now. He is always honest, clear and sincere. The 2 other mechanics working for him are great and they will gladly explain everything to you (if you are interested) and not talk down to you if car engines are not your thing. He can also make suggestions as to priorities if you are strapped for cash, and provides alternate solutions sometimes (like if you want to provide a part from a junk yard he will install it). Highly recommended.

Agree with all the earlier posts. Carl talks straight to you, and actually listens when you describe what's going on. (Unlike the dealer service manager with the bored nods who listens impatiently then writes down two words on the service order.) You won't tell your friends that Carl is cheap--car repair still hurts--but you will tell your friends about him. He really watches your costs for both parts and labor, and is totally on the up-and-up. Also a really nice guy, and his dog (Sprocket) is a sweet thing.
