I've had my share of bad and dishonest mechanics, but Budd & Company is great. I've been taking my cars there for about 4 years now and am so glad I found them. They may not necessarily be the cheapest place in the world, but the peace of mind that they're honest and doing a good job is more than worth it. They're always extremely helpful. I recommend them to all my friends

After being given the run around by several mechanics when my beloved Geo Metro began to make funny transmission noises, we finally took it into Budd & Company for their advice. After a little investigation, they came back with an honest opinion that the repair simply wasn't worth it when taking into account the value of the car.
They ultimately charged us a only nominal fee for their time, which we were only too happy to pay after more than one case of mechanics dancing around the issue and charging us for deep investigation into "the issue."
We're definitely taking our cars to Budd & Company for all future needs.

I called and made an appointment to get a tune-up. I stressed that I was going on a trip and I needed the work completed before the weekend. They said, "No problem." I dropped my truck off at 7am to a very courteous and attentive service person. He listened carefully to everything I had to say and wrote it all down. Good, good.
At 4:45 I hadn't heard anything from Budd & Co. so I called to see if I could come by and pick up my truck. The service person told me they had done a break inspection, which was fine and that my transmission needed some work. Oh... and unfortunately he didn't get to the tune-up!! So... he had my car for 10 hours and all he managed to do was take two wheels off and eyeball the pads. The transmission problem was a no brainer. Great... thanks.
The upshot is that I wasn't charged anything. The downside was that it was incredibly inconvenient to have to scramble to get a tune-up (elsewhere) before I left town.
I understand that things get hectic. There are unforeseen interruptions, work takes longer than expected, yadda, yadda, yadda. Perhaps I caught them on an unusual day. Unfortunately, I will have trouble returning to Budd & Co. and I won't recommend it to friends.

After years of getting screwed by mechanics I happened upon Budd & Co. These guys are honest and trustworthy to a T. I've referred a handful of friends who have all been pleased with the service and price. Mike is wonderful. He's patient and reliable. Budd & Co. has been servicing our vehicles for about 4 years now. I'll never go anywhere else.

I had my oil changed in LA and the guys at the shop told me I needed new brakes, new radiator fluid, and new tires. Thinking it was cheaper in Seattle I waited until I returned home. I took my truck into Budd & Co and they told me my brakes were in good shape and there was nothing wrong with my fluid. They could have easily taken me for a ride, but the guys are too honest. They probably aren't the cheapest, but I don't mind paying extra for honest service.

Several years ago I had a problem my mechanic wasn't equipped to fix; he told me "take it to Budd, they're too good and too busy to need to cheat". I've taken my 3 cars there for 8 years now and they've been close to perfect. They're not cheap, but better than the dealers. They ALWAYS have it ready when promised. They do the work to suit the car; a great example is my 19 year old Cadillac, he recommended against fixing the air conditioning as the cost would be incommensurate with the remaining life of the car. Mike, who runs the place, seems to genuinely like his work. He WANTS to do good work, and almost always does.

Budd and Co. isn't the cheapest garage in town but they are quick, reasonably priced and, mostly importantly, straight forward.
My experience with Budd and Co goes like this. I call and set up an appointment. They tell me when they can look at it. I bring it in that day, they look at it that day and get back to me that day with a diagnosis and price. This doesn't seem like such a big deal but most repair places just can't do this dance. I think it's irritating when you have to pursue the repair shop to find out when you can get you car back and how much it'll cost you to get it back.
The biggest perk of Budd is that they are straight forward. I have never felt like they were trying to up sell any service. I've done a little experiment too and it's not just me. I've sent many people there and they've all been treated well. ...and yes I would send my own mother.
The bad news - cars are expensive. This has nothing to do with Budd and Co. but sometimes cars are really broken and really expesnive to fix. Don't shoot the messenger! This is a little lesson that me and my transmission had to work out between the two of us.
