Poor service - worse communication 4/20/2007

Clayton seemed nice enough at first. He promised to take a look at our aging 90's Jetta but $1,100 later, when he said it was all fixed, we were back a month later. $800 later, we were sure we were finished then, even though one of the items should have been found the first time as it was critical and clearly had been going on for some time- we drove away. But no, it was 4 blocks down the road in the middle of construction and the car died again- same problem. Brought it back, and they had forgotten to finish it. OOPS. Even after that second pass at it, we drove home to find a car rag stuck in the engine. Now it's 2 weeks later and the car began to repeat the same symptoms, and did he fix it? No, he failed to look at it and find the problem in 3 full days at his shop but also will not admit he can't or won't fix it, it's our time-frame that's the problem. He also then said he can't guarantee his work at all. Hmmmm... when someone else is going to look at it now (we towed it to another shop) he backs out of any guarantee of his work. Oh, and how do you know you're car's not finished at the end of the day when he tells you it will be? Well, you know because he just doesn't call you and then the third day he starts to ignore your phone calls. Nice. Stay away from this one. more

Poor TDI service in Rainier Valley 1/25/2007

I had my TDI Golf car towed to Clayton's Volkswagen when it failed to start. It arrived on Friday morning and he said he couldn't work on it until Tuesday, as he is closed the weekend and Monday. He called on Tuesday afternoon and said he couldn't fix it and that I should take it to the dealer, he said he wouldn't charge me for the time he'd spent. I called the tow truck and he was on the way when Clayton called back and said that he had to charge me for an hour because he'd hooked up the computer and he had to charge for that. Now I'm out $90 for the tow to Clayton's, $65 for his hour labor, and $100 for the tow to University Volkswagen, and my car still doesn't run. Clayton was friendly and personable, and appears to have lots of experience working on liquid cooled VW's. He should have admitted when I called that he had little to no experience with the TDI's and would not be able to fix it. more
