I have visited this store in many different contexts - from starting projects, to getting help, to getting my kids going with new projects. At every instance we have found pretty yarns in many different price ranges and received friendly, smart help from the staff.
While the shop is smaller than some I enjoy the cozy atmosphere. If you are inclined toward claustrophobia go on a weekday and you will have more room and the staff to yourself!

Alexanders is the best bead store in Seattle! They have some of the most amazing, unique stones you'll ever find. The quality of the gemstones is truly unbeatable, and the prices are SOOO LOW! (we're talking $1 for peridot & garnet strands!) They told me some of them are especially cut for Alexaders, which is a plus knowing there aren't many out there. I can see that the people who own/work this store are very knowledgeable and have a ton of pride in their products. The girls are always excited to help me with my projects. There's been a couple times I brought something there that I was having trouble finishing and the man with the accent showed me a solution I never thought of.
Tip: antiques in the cases at the back of the store are very interesting

If you want both low cost and good quality, you want Ballard Camera! They are quick and will re-do prints if you don't like how it turns out. They have a large stock of equipment, chemicals, and photo paper if you develop things yourself as well. They also have a good selection of scrap booking supplies. Parking can be an issue since they're right on Ballard Way, but it's worth it, especially if you're in a hurry. If you want even higher quality prints, go to Moonphoto on Greenwood.

Beadworld is the place I go when I have a crafting project go wrong (which it invariably does). The last time I walked in I had a string of freshwater pearls and a desire to make them into a necklace - no experience, no problem! The staff was exceptionally helpful, even going so far as to print out some flyers that had step-by-step instructions on threading a necklace. Prices were very reasonable, and soon I had my own beautiful necklace.
PROS: Reasonable prices, exceptionally helpful staff, good selection

This art store is great! I initially went to kill time waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant, but it's mind blowing how much time you can spend wandering about. They have lots of "real" art supplies, but the fun lies in the throwback projects they have around every corner. (Colored sand projects, Shrinky Dinks, etc). My roommates and I spent about an hour last year debating between a button maker and a tye dye kit...with the tye dye winning in the end (I'm still rocking the random articles I dyed on a regular basis). Also have the most bizarre and entertaining coloring books around, stuff like 18th Century Costume Design Coloring & Activity Book. Who would need that? Besides me? Nice stuff, nice staff!

For 30 years Daniel Smithhttp://www.danielsmith.com/ has catered to artists. They have materials that mere hobbyists don't need, like 23 carat gold leaf, dry pigments, encaustic waxes, studio furniture, framing supplies and materials for many other types of projects. They make their own oil paints, printmaking inks, dry pigments, gessos, et cetera. There are many classes taught there, and usually someone on staff with experience using whatever tool or material you might wish to purchase, or at least they know someone who does. They don't have everything, but are one of the best places to start your search.

This place is great for reasonably priced memorial stones for pets. We live in the country and have lost three cats to the animals the prowl the forest. Each time we made a family visit to Gargoyles and picked out a statue of a cat in repose for the places in the garden where they now sleep in peace. It's made for a quiet place of reflection where we can remember them well to this day.

I was in desperate need to re-upolster my dining room chairs and I took this opportunity to browse into Hankcock Fabrics. Although the prices were a little expensive for my taste, I was able to find something within a reasonable budget that looks great with my dining room set up. I would suggest this place to people who are the artsy type. It gave me a lot of inspiration and I love the variety.

This is a fun store to walk through. The lighting is dark, so you can enjoy the candlelight, darling - but their products are great. The candles smell so good and they really do last an incredibly long time. I like shopping here because for whatever reason, the smell isn't as overpowering as Yankee Candle Company - which just about knocks you down on your way in. The prices are on the high side - but they're worth it. Go ahead, splurge!
