Roq la Rue specializes in the the creepy/cartoonish art that has been getting a ton of attention lately. I don't always like the shows here because this is an area where I only like a minority of the stuff produced, but I have been exposed to some cool new stuff and lots of color.

Underground art is the coolest! And the one good place in town to find it is here at Roq La Rue. The owner definitely has her finger on the pulse of the lowbrow hipster art scene. Her shows constantly bring in the wildest selection of artists. Breaking ground as an alternative to the staid Pioneer Square set, Roq La Rue feeds a need for art for those of us who want nothing to do with the boring white wine and watercolors offered other places. The opening nights of the shows generally provide a rare chance to meet some really cool artists and commune with like-minded citizens of Seattle. You will always leave Roq La Rue with your yen for mind-bending art sated.

Many a great shows have happened at the "Roq". The owner is quite friendly and returns emails and phone calls immediately. Although I've never purchased anything from them (I've had the chance) the owner Kristen has always been more than helpful. Sends me jpegs and information that I needed. Check out their website. It's great and has numerous books and prints to choose from along with past shows.
