Vivant is what some of the chain and mall stores wish they could be if they had any individuality and style. Forget pottery barn and all those chain candle stores in the mall. If you are looking for a really nice gift, or for something nice and unique for your own home, check out Vivant

This isn't a bad thrift store located a little up from Pioneer Square getting closer to the Intl District. My main complaint is that they never seem to be open any time I come by - I think they're only open about 20 hrs a week, so if you're planning on stopping, make sure to check the times in advance...

If you want to buy antiques on Queen Anne Hill then go to Singer Galleries. Great selection of silver, porcelain, furniture of various styles and ages. they also offer a layaway plan if you need some time to pay off the purchase with no interest (three months) you have to ring the doorbell to be let into the shop but don't let that stop you.

If you are looking for unique & reasonably priced antiques, you can't go wrong with Silhouette Antiques!
Silhouette is strong in dining wares, particularly
silver tableware & vintage plates.
In addition, be sure to check out the collection of silhouettes on the walls. If you are looking for
gift ideas that are affordable, then this is the place.
& I'm not just saying this because I'm here grandson.
It's a cool store!!!

The senior center on California Street in West Seattle has a thrift store where you can shop. It's pretty cheap, and sometimes they have half-off sales too. It's not my favorite thrift store, but if you can find something you're interested in here, you can usually get it at a good price.

Seattle Trading Post is located between Pike and Pine on 12th Ave in Captial Hill.
Walking into this store is like walking into grandma's attic. Things are haphazardly organized with little rhyme or reason to why they are positioned next to each other (Unless adjacent dishes and TVs are supposed to make you think of TV dinners).
It really does feel like an indoor garage sale with fluorescent round stickers on everything. I spoke to the owner and he is expanding the store soon (Thank GOD! You feel pretty clausterphobic in there).
But I did find a wood carved walking stick for $5 so its worth sticking your head in and taking a peak around.

This gem of a shop (pun intended) in Queen Anne is magical and breathtaking. Filled with glass, gems, and metal, the shelves house a phenomenal selection of jewelry. The staff is knowledgeable, fun, and willing to help customers find the piece that is just right. They also possess the ability to transfix things – replacing lost pieces from a broach, for instance, or turning clip-on earrings into pierced studs.

More
Located in Ballard, just northeast of the Ballard Bridge at 1440 NW 52nd St. is the RE Store. They have your standard building salvage pieces along with some unusual and downright odd items. For unusual, last time I was there they had an ancient bidet or sits bathtub. The oddest thing they had then was clothing, from the 1950s or 60s that had been salvaged from a former dry cleaners. The items were apparently found behind a locked door that wasn't highly visible and had been forgotten about. The RE Store personnel discovered the door and found the old clothes. They weren't building supplies, but were too cool to scrap, so they salvaged them!
Price wise the RE Store is all over the board, from very pricey to downright reasonable, depending on what you want. I haven't tried dickering or doing a trade in, but hey, some of the stuff they get is donated, so I suppose you could try. One word of caution, make sure you know what you want before you go in, it's one of those"kid in the candy store" places for builders and remodelers.

More
For those with an appreciation for mid century modern design and furniture, Patina is a great place for authentic furniture and home items from the forties, fifties and sixties. No new stuff here, all original. I purchased an awesome ten foot white leather minimalist sofa for my house that even a guy working in nonprofits could afford. Knowledgeable staff with a great eye for what is cool. Located in Fremont.
