After I moved to West Seattle from California, I started bringing my two cats here on a coupon. We have seen most of the vets here, but in particular Dr. Johnson and Dr. Quincy. They are gentle and thorough and always take time to answer questions, explain options and treatments, and I have found them helpful in giving price estimates for planning out my cats' health care. Staff are caring too. They have people that come in for some specialized things like ultrasounds and cardiology, and refer out for more complex operations. I finally lost my two old kitties, and one of them I had put to sleep here. They were very compassionate, explained everything, and gave us plenty of time alone to say goodbye. They have also been very helpful assessing and treating my new shelter & rescue kitties who all had different problems when they came to me. Once or twice I have felt an individual missed something or I disagreed with a charge, but this has been more than compensated for by their long-term competence, caring and flexibility. If your medications are not time-urgent, check whether you can buy from Amazon, or even Costco or a drugstore, as most vets are pricier to buy medication from. If $ is not an issue and convenience is, buy here and help support the great vets, staff, and nice facilities, all of which cost $! If you haven't been to them before, check out the coupon for a free first exam in the coupon book "The Best OF Alki/West Seattle."

When I moved to West Seattle not long ago I needed to find a new vet for my cats. Napoleon is an older cat and had been diagnosed with skin cancer between his toes. I hadn't dealt with it because the way the previous vet had explained it to me I thought the cat would not recover from the surgery and was told he might even have to have his whole leg removed. We met with Dr. Quincy at West Seattle Animal Hospital and she gave me a much better explanation of the condition and did extensive testing to be sure surgery was necessary. It was. Napoleon had two toes removed and I couldn't believe how quickly he recovered. Great bedside manner and a helpful staff have made me very happy with my new vet.

My husband and I have had several bad experiences at West Seattle animal H. Not only have they often but rude they have taken advantage of our devotion to our animals by trying to over-charge and over medicate 2 of our animals when they were seriously ill. We have since switched to Urban vet down on Elliot ave. and have been totally happy with them. We also found out West Seattle had prescribed very expensive meds for several animals of our animals after we had explained that we are not the richest people in the world and we would like the most cost efficient way to treat our animals they insisted these expensive meds were the only way to go but come to find out at Urban we could have been treating them with a very inexpensive over the counter medication that we could get at the grocery store. There is more than that but hopefully this gets my point across.

We've been going to West Seattle Animal Hospital (in Jeff Square) for 10 years now, and really like Dr. Johnson and his team. Not only have we gotten good, reasonable care, but they have great hours (open weekends and evenings) and have a policy that if you want to be seen that day, you can be seen that day.
The convenience alone would make a great vet, but they have helped us with many of our furry family members (three dogs and a cat), through some trying times, without going overboard.
I hope you'll try them.
