To be perfectly honest, I never believed in alternative medicine. This all changed after my mother was rear ended last year. She started getting serious migraine headaches on a consistent basis. Nothing worked to curb neither the frequency nor intensity. Until she came here. It was a last resort and made a believer out of the both of us. She now lives pain free with occasional visits to this fantastic clinic. Everyone here is professional and friendly, and most importantly genuinely cares about their patients.

I have a real problem with so-called "vitamin and health" stores who sell nothing but creatine, gimmickly weight loss pills and artificial energy bars. But the dispensary at Bastyr Center for Natural Health is a welcome retreat from all of that junk.
The Bastyr staff truly know about natural health (it's connected to their clinic), and everything there is really high quality. Not only can I find lots of herbal and homeopathic supplements for every ailment, they also have a Chinese dispensary, where you can fill prescriptions for Chinese herbal formulas right there on the spot.
I love that I can also find cool gifts (like cards and handmade silk scarves from Thailand), gorgeous beauty products and healthy snacks while I pick up my daily vitamins. Overall, Bastyr offers a gimmic-free shopping experience and is a great addition to this side of Wallingford/Fremont.

Ann Keppler, RN (Tues and Weds) and Judy Herrigel facilitate these weekly support groups for parents and their infants at the Community Birth and Family Center. They are divided into age groups (birth to 12 weeks, 3 to 6 months, etc) and are held at different times of day depending on the child's age. You do not have to sign up for the classes and can drop in when you get the chance (it's okay if you're late!)---a $5 donation is encouraged with each class you attend. I have found these classes to be invaluable (esp with my first!) as a means of support and excellent, well-intentioned advice on everything from dispelling breastfeeding myths to answering questions about sleep and fussiness. I would encourage all new moms to try and attend at least one of these classes. Ann Keppler is a wealth of knowledge and kindness (she co wrote the book "Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn")! As an acupuncturist, I am always looking for Naturopaths to refer my patients to when they need blood work or vitamins or when they are suffering from issues which would respond more effectively to a dual eastern-western approach. Once I met Amy all my referrals went to her. I found her to be exceptionally knowledgeable and up to date on the latest research as well as experienced enough to know what works anecdotally. In addition to being extremely effective clinically, Amy is easy to talk to and share personal health and life experiences with. She is caring and attentive and I know that she takes good care of everyone who walks into her clinic. My patients who have seen her have reported back that they felt she was very thorough in her approach and had excellent bedside manner. I would recommned Dr. Amy Fasig to anyone seeking Naturopathic medicine.

The Herbalist is a little shop off Ravenna with most of the herbs you need for healing, aromatherapy, and most of whatever you'll need. The staff so far has known the answer to every question I have asked (not simple questions, mind you!), so they are a great resource. They sell fresh and dried herbs, and in small or larger quantities; prepared in just about any way you could want. Even if you're just looking to try something else for what ails you, you might want to go talk with them and get their ideas.
