Just an update. Anastasia's Asylum is relocating to somewhere in downtown Santa Monica and has closed it's place at Wilshire and 11th. At the new location, it may be quite a different place. More on that later. Until now, it has been a delightful place to go for food and atmosphere, with excellent coffee and deserts.

i visited this place one very late night after an evening of dancing expecting just a small paper cup of instant coffee, at best. what i found instead was a great place with tasty (and healthy!) food and a great cup of coffee. the decor was psychedelic and off the wall, but the food was down home and lovely. the staff was also refreshingly attitude free and friendly (even at 1:30 in the morning!) i heard they also have live music here from time to time, so i'll need to check that out soon too.

Live Music at night. There are not a lot of seatings so you may have to wait. It is crowded especially at night. The hot cholocate is tasty and they also have quite a few of pastry and cakes. Definitely a good choice for you for a cozy cafe to hang out with your friends.

anastasia's asylum is an unusual name for a cafe, but it's a good alternative to all the starbucks and coffee beans out there. besides good coffee drinks, they also have a good selection of healthy food, including vegetarian options. they also have dessert. the place has a warm atmosphere, more inviting than most other cafes. at night they often have some live music that plays on their second floor. this may or may not be good depending on what you're trying to do. if you're just hanging out, it's nice. if you're trying to study or write, it may distract you. i don't think they have free wireless access, but most cafes these days charge for that service anyway.
