Great sandwiches with the best and freshest ingredients. As mentioned though if you are going for lunch be prepared for an incredible wait, more then 40 minutes to place an order is not unheard of even with their large staff of busy bee sandwich makers. Many note the wonderful cheese selection, but chocolate lovers should seek this place as well, as they have a fine selection of rich dark European chocolates.

Bay Cities is a deli, bakery and specialty grocery shop combined. The sandwiches are excellent (and huge) but the counter gets busy during lunch hours, so pay attention when your number is called. While waiting, you can peruse the rest of the market which stocks a wide range of gourmet snacks and cheeses that you won't find elsewhere. Parking can be a problem, even though there's a small lot adjacent to the store. The place also closes on Mondays.

The best on the westside- try the godmother. The lunch line gets really long though- so skip the 11 to 1 block, and go when it's not crowded. Their cheese selection is great too.

Forget Subway and Quiznos, you gotta try Bay Cities in Santa Monica! The are often crowded at peak times, but it you have some time, it worth checking out. Walk through the aisles of a great selection of gourmet foods and drinks. I heard they bake all day long, so your breads and baked goods will be fresh! It's not cheap, so don't expect fast-food prices. If you really must grab and go, they prepare popular sandwiches during rush hour at the front counter, so you can literally just grab, pay and go! Oh, if you like olives, they have a great selection of those, too. It's a yummy, yummy place!
