If you're a New York transplant like me you get strange cravings at all hours of the night for potato pancakes, black and white cookies, matzo ball soup, and pastrami sandwiches stack high on rye bread.
Living in Santa Monica you're faced with fancy food and a city that shuts down around 9:30.
However, as you drive around the city that oves to sleep you'll find a beacon of hope... a shimmering star in the distance in Izzy's deli.
A kid from Brooklyn couldn't find a deli in LA so he built one. Everything in this place is great including the service and the prices. You can't go wrong.

As deli's go, Izzy's isn't bad but neither is it outstanding. The food is good (usual deli fare) and the portions are large -- especially the salads. Service can be touch & go, depending on your server, and it's not unheard of to see a waitress reading a book at the counter! Still, if you're in the mood for matzo ball or mushroom barley soup, or a large sandwich, it's worth a visit. Just don't go if you're in a rush.
