The show, the atmosphere, the tricks 9/26/2011

I am from Idaho. When traveling this summer in Los Angles area I was with my family looking for things to do. We heard about Magicopolis. We called and reserved tickets to this magic show. We had no idea what to expect. We just wanted to do something different. I was with my Dad, Mom, and sister. The show started at 8:00 PM we arrived around 7:30 and went to the bar for some wine. The place is so cool, with huge posters of magicians from different times throughout history. It instantly gives you a magic vibe being inside the place. After we had some wine a magician was playing with bubbles behind the bar, and another magician was doing amazing card tricks for my family, one card even ended up on the celling. The show didn't even start yet and we were happy to have come. When we walked into the big theatre it felt so magical, medium in size and packed with people. The show is so cool, it really brings back the feeling of wonder. Steve Spill and his wife Bozena really put on a show not to missed. We cracked up laughing so hard at some parts. Its a two hour show with a break in the middle and full magic that speaks to the heart of all people, it felt like the whole room was one after the show, it definitely brought me and family closer as now we had stories to recall and talk about for the rest our lives. I tell all my friend and family to check this place out when your in Santa Monica. Really its worth it! I love the the catch fraise "the more you drink the better the tricks".... more

Magic Bar in Santa Monica 9/10/2010

I visited the magicopolis magic bar and was surprised. There is a MAGIC BAR in Santa Monica. The bar is open Friday and Saturday nights for drinks, fun, and close up magic miracles. Great place for a large group of friends out on the town, only three blocks away from the water. more

Can't get enough 10/5/2009

Magicopolis is such a neat place to take friends and family. The show is all ages and reminds me of a show you would see in Vegas. Also there is a bar magic show every Saturday night at 10 that I go to probably at least three times a month! more

Not your average experience 9/18/2009

“Escape Reality” the title of the two hour show at Magicopolis says it all. From the minute we walked into the door we were instantly entertained. Even before we were seated for the we found ourselves participating in magic tricks at the bar with the bartender and there were two more magicians performing in the lobby for the kids! It’s such a cool atmosphere right when you walk into this place. You instantly feel welcomed like you were invited to a really cool private magic party with friends. After seeing some magic close up we were seated for the show and it’s incredible. It’s a huge show with music and comedy and audience participation. We got to witness a lady float right before our eyes, have her body completely smooshed, saw a man escape a burning rope and deadly spikes, read audience members minds, and that is only the half of it! I haven’t come across another form of entertainment in LA even comparable to what this place has to offer. It is truly a one of a kind experience! Whenever I have visitors from out of town I always take them to Magicopolis and it continues to be just as entertaining as ever! more

you've got to see this!! 2/5/2009

I wandered by this place with my girlfriends, and I didn't know what it was. Christi wanted to go see a magic show, and I was down with that. We wandered in and this place is the bomb! There's this dude who does a big magic show in the back. We saw it and it was awesome. I liked it when he made his assistant float. I remember seeing some magician do it when I was a kid, and it was so cool seeing it again. The best part was the bar. There's this bar tender named Erik. All I can say is damn. He's good. The stuff he did was different from anything I've ever seen. I think I saw him at The Improv a few months ago, because there was this joke he did about his parents crying themselves to sleep. He's really funny. He convinced me and my chicas to hang out after the show. He does this show on Saturday nights called The Bar Show! It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. He had these two chick comedians and this magician that performed behind the bar. Me and my ladies were laughing so hard we could barley drink out wine. Erik hosted the show, and I almost fell off my bar stool when he shoved a pen up his nose. Then he ate a deck of cards and found Christi's card with his tongue. It was crazy hella funny. The only complaint I have is that they ran out of Pinot Noir. There were a lot of people in there, and I guess they had a run on it. You guys have got to see this show. Seriously, go see it. Go see it now. I'm going back next week to check out The Bar Show! It changes every week, and it's my new thing on Saturday nights. more

It's Magic 1/2/2009

How often do we parents get to turn to our kid and gasp, “How the squid did he do that?” With Santa Monica’s Magicopolis offering a family-friendly version of its popular “Escape Reality” show on weekend afternoons, the answer is twice a weekend. No offense to those eager, multi-tasking birthday party clowns and their not-so-sleight-of-hand, but the tricks at Magicopolis are popcorn-droppingly amazing. Many are familiar – from handkerchief illusions to sawing a woman in half – but professional wow-ist Steve Spill has concocted clever skits, often with his beguiling assistant Eleanora, that add to the drama. “Impossible!” exclaims Nipper as three rings collected from audience members are linked – for real! – and then somehow unconnected by Mr. Spill. And when Eleanora elegantly rises and floats midair above a couch, we’re all believers. Seeing a good magician pull a quarter from a kid’s ear has endured because, if you’re willing to give in to the wonder, even grown-ups can feel like a kid. more

Great Magic at a Great Venue 12/27/2008

I recently visited Steven Spill's Magicopolis in Santa Monica, California. His vision for a first rate magic theater is now in its 11th year. As you'll see, I thoroughly enjoyed Spill's "Escape Reality" stage show and found that he's made some significant changes to his venue that makes a great experience even better. Out on LA's west side, Magicopolis serves-up astounding magic in a classy venue that's one block from Santa Monica's popular Third Street Promenade. Its fantastic stage show offers a deft and entertaining mix of large scale illusions, stand-up effects, comedy and music that will appeal to everyone in the family. There are also close-up shows performed at a new bar. The Escape Running on weekends, "Escape Reality," the venue’s entertaining stage show, stars owner Steven Spill and Bozena Sparrow, his wife. It's a two-hour experience - including an intermission -which is a throwback to great magic shows of the past. Spill and Sparrow perform by themselves, as well as together in big scale illusions and humorous comedy sketches. Spill gets up-close and personal by reading the minds of audience members and borrowing finger rings and linking them. And his bag of tricks includes a harrowing escape from a formidable spiked apparatus. Sparrow draws on her acting prowess (she has appeared in numerous movies and television shows) to bring a theatrical flair to her show segments. Together, the magical pair induce a sense of wonder and provide comical moments that send spectators into hysterics. You'll remember the stunning image of Sparrow mysteriously floating above a couch as well as Spill's hilarious turn in a wedding dress. For magicians and the delight of lay spectators, the husband and wife team perform the best version I have ever seen of Slydini's classic (I'll use initials here so I don't spoil the fun for lay folks) N.O.T.H. The Venue Magicopolis' roomy theater features comfortable seats that are set on a steep incline. There's hardly a bad seat in the house, except for the extreme right a more

What a Suprise 12/18/2008

Good: The show was great, and for a really good price. I also enjoyed the magic before the main show. There was a great magician in the bar and for the younger ones there was another magician at the store. Bad: I wish there was a wider selection in the bar, only beer and wine. Other then that everything was fantastic.. more

Magically Fun Good Time For All. 7/22/2006

I've only been once, but it was a blast, I brought my girl friend and she loved it, and was a participant in one of the tricks. The show I saw was a good mix of humor and impressive magic, I always love well done slight of hand tricks the most and there were a few classic coin and card tricks thrown in. Good place to go, and since venues for magic shows are few and far between, it's nice to do something different then another club or music gig. Definitely worth checking out at least once, and I will probably go back again. more

modern magic 8/21/2005

A great show. There is a constant stream of different and modern magicians putting on shows here. I have been to two different shows and both of them were unique and entertaining. You can purchase tickets for just you and friend, or go as a group. In addition, you can also setup private parties in a smaller room with just you and the magician. I am sure that is pretty expensive, but it is nice option. I have just gone to the regular show with friends and it has been great. more
