How good is Steaksmith? It's so good that on a recent two-week visit to Santa Fe, my wife and I squeezed in 10 terrific dinners at the Steaksmith at El Gancho Restaurant in Santa Fe, NM.
Why?
Because I like a variety of dishes, from steaks, to seafood, to pasta, to veggies, and I like them fresh, elegantly prepared, and cooked just as long as necessary, but not longer. Rare needs to be pink-red; vegetables crisp; pasta al dente. Steaksmith never missed! Oh, and the drinks were hearty, and the table wines actually satisfying.
But the harder one to please in my family is my wife. Although she's even more of a foodhound than me, life cast her a dirty turn when she developed interstitial cystitis, generally described as a bladder condition, which severely limits her choice of food. No spices, no citrus, no tomatoes, no alcohol, no sauces, etc. Finding a restaurant with fresh, individually prepared, tasty servings for a limited palate is a major challenge!
At Steaksmith, manager Tupper Schoen, and on his day off, partner Tom Vimont, made it seem, well, like a piece of cake. He and the courteous and attentive wait staff, most of whom have been with Steaksmith for years, made sure my wife's food was separately prepared in the kitchen and served up just as she likes/needs it, and attractively, too. As her official taster, I can vouch for the fact that Steaksmith can make the plainest foods look and taste delicious!
Steaksmith is 10 or 15 minutes out of town, where they were initially located and flourished as an elegant, downtown steak and seafood restaurant. The move, about 20 years ago, to El Gancho, proved a wise business decision. The atmosphere is still inviting and cozy, the food still superb, but the prices, compared to restaurants in the heart of Santa Fe, are downright inexpensive.
The only thing wrong with Steaksmith is that we couldn't take it home with us.
Be sure to make a reservation. The locals love this place.
Pros: Wide selection, fresh food, expert preparation, amazing service
Cons: reservation usually needed; family ambience

This is a great little sopt right on Canyon Rd. near the galleries. They have a rich and varied menu and occasionally offer off menu items that they are testing. We had a lovely baby serrano pepper dish where they were sauted in olive oil and hit with a dash of sea salt. Just heavenly! There is inside dinning and a nice courtyard for romantic outdoor dinning. Not just a good spot to stop while on the gallery crawl, but a destination all to itself.

I haven't lived in Santa Fe for five years but went back for a visit recently and found that Doubletake is one of the best consignment shops in the world. I've lived in a lot of "fancy" places, and nothing beats the interesting, unique, ever-changing and - yes - chic - clothing in this abundant and friendly store. Fashion mavens: do not miss out on the incredible bargains and "finds" at this store. It has expanded, by the way. A total treasure trove. Thanks to the always-accommodating, upbeat and helpful staff and management. (Wish you would come to Las Vegas - we need you!)
Pros: Ever-changing, abundant inventory; interesting, chic finds at bargains; great prices; fun staff
Cons: Parking can get hairy on Zia - do yourself a favor and park on Guadaloupe.

This place has some great food but it was a little pricey for mexican food. There's a large menu and service is great, and any of the beers that they make are great.

La Posada was a beautiful resort. The Staff was very friendly and the service was great. We actually stayed an extra night because it was so nice. The spa treatments were a bit expensive but was very relaxing. The grounds were kept up especially since all the leaves were falling. I didn't mind paying the $14 valet fee, but the resort fee should just be added into the price of the room. I really didn't like knowing I had to pay a $15 Resort fee for each day.
Pros: Beautiful Grounds, Nice Rooms, Relaxing
Cons: Parking, Resort Fee

We have been here at least a half a dozen times and it is the best restaurant in Santa Fe (other excellent choices are Geronimo, Santa Cafe and Inn at Anazzai). The food is reasonably priced for a 5 star restaurant and it has the best dessert in Santa Fe (the liquid chocalate cake). Beautiful ambiance and outstanding service.
Pros: Best Dinner in Santa Fe and one of the best in the US
Cons: none

Dust in the Wind (or DTW???) is always up to date on trends and is my go-to place for great outfits. I'm pretty sure they don't claim to have real chanel because anyone who was remotely familiar with the line would realize u can't buy chanel in boutiques. Their 7 for all mankind jeans always fit me the best and i just got a fantastic leather jacket since its winter time!!
I highly reccomend this place
Pros: great selection!!
Cons: I always max out my credit card haha

If you don't need hemp, you still need the hemp store bumper stickers. Wondering where to buy the latest subversive saying? Probably at The Hemp Store. The selection of hemp clothing and goods changes regularly. I was very sad that they didn't have the hemp cloth diapers when I was ready for them. But they do have great organic cotton underwear and socks. Lots of hemp clothing and bags. And like I said, those great bumper stickers.
